Hello. I just wanted to rant a little about the success you can still have with a small builder and get a phenomenal custom cabinet. I do not work for these guys or have any affiliation. Rather, I found them on eBay and took a shot at letting Byron and gang build a custom 4x10 cabinet for me to marry up with an old MusicMan amp I have.
Byron was totally responsive, took my input on what I was looking for, made great recommendations down to every last detail (speakers, baffle, wiring, tolex, grill covers, handles, etc.). He listened to what I was going for tonewise, the type of music I play, etc. We decided to go with 10" Ragin'Cajuns by Eminence and port the baffle for a tad more bass response. He used a picture of my MusicMan to match up grill coth and tolex. He and his team met my build time and shipped the cab impeccably protected. I just got it and tested it and it totally kills. It surpassed all my expectations and I believe I got it at a very competitive price. I also took a chance and bought one of his Phattie overdrive pedals (while the cab was being built) and the thing is a total monster too! Sorry, but I feel like I discovered a hidden gem here and wanted to share as he did such a great job for me that I'm sure others can benefit as well! Byron may be reached at: byronamps@gmail.com (forgive me, Byron if I was not to share this publicly). BTW, here's the specs on the Phattie and I've attached some pics of the cab I just had built by Byron and his team. Peace. Mike Byron Amplification brings you a brand new, hand crafted, guitar pedal. We make these with pride in the USA for working musicians everywhere. I wanted to create a pedal that embodied the tone of my favorite Marshall Plexi: the JTM-45. The result is the Phattie Overdrive. The Phattie has super thick tone, three band EQ, and lots of gain on tap, and always lets the tone of your guitar shine through. Perfect in front of a clean amp, or to kick your overdriven amp up a notch for solos. I use it with my Orange OR80 clone as a booster, and my Hiwatt DR504 as a "Marshall in a box." Tones range from light overdrive to a big smooth crunch, and the EQ section lets you tailor it to your rig and guitar. The big low end works great with bass guitars as well. Compared to a Tube Screamer, the Phattie has (lots) more bass, more gain, higher output, and more versatility due to the EQ section. Do you have more pics? One of the pedal? Are there any sound clips that you know of?

Re: Byron Amplification 4x10 cab and Phattie OD
Here's a couple more pics of the cab (sorry, but I cannot get the shot of the interior view from the rear of the cab to load up). I also do not have a pic of the Phattie, but perhaps the cached results a google search of the ebay listing might have it. I can tell you that the build quality of both the cab and the Phattie are rock-solid. The Phattie is as nice and professional as any custom or mass-produced pedal I have ever seen.
Peace and hope this helps. Mike |

I don't remember seeing this guy on ebay when I was looking for someone to build my cab. Has he just started?

Re: Byron Amplification 4x10 cab and Phattie OD
Mike, thanks for posting this, and I don't mind at all that you posted my email.
We're so pleased that you're happy with your cab and pedal! We are just getting started, very new. Right now we're just selling a few things on Ebay while we get some capital together and construct our website, etc. We're building this business from the ground up, and trying our best not to take on a bunch of loans or anything to get running. We'll soon have the full site up with amps, pedals, and cabs. Feel free to contact us with your custom cab requests! If you have questions, email me, I may not check this thread that often. Thanks again, Byron |
