VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

I did some research about a practice amp with some built in effects, and thought I found the perfect amp in the Cube 30X. I got it for my bday and do really like it, but much to my dismay I started reading that the VOX AD30VT may be better for the types of music I play. I play mostly Classic Rock and Blues, (Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn etc.) Note: I play an LP standard premium plus

So basically my question is to those who have played both, is it worth it returning my Cube for the VOX?

Thanks for any help guys.

Re: VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

I have the Vox (out on loan right now) and the Cube 60. The Vox has had some reported reliability issues and I have to say I much prefer the controls of the Cube; they are much more positive and intuitive to use.

Re: VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

I sold one of my Valvetronix (AD50VT) this morning to an older guy who was a beginner guitarist. He said he had a small Fender Champ or something, but couldn't get that nice bluesy sound that he wanted with it.

I set it up for a slightly dirty blues tone (Fender Bassman 4x10) amp model and played a really short little blues run through my LP. The guy immediately whips out his wallet and says....that's it....I'll take it - with a big grin on his face.

I've never played through a Cube, so I can't vouch for it, but I have yet to hear anything negative about it either...so I think you have a good amp there. I don't think you could be dissapointed with the Vox either....it's a very versatile and sweet sounding amp.

I sold someone my 50, but they would have to eat my liver to get my 60.

I'll probably end up sticking with the Cube.. the more I play it the more I realize it's a pretty sweet amp. I doubt the difference will be that noticeable.

Re: VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

I too have an LP Standard Premium Plus AND a VOX AD30VT. The VOX is nice for it's small size and it's plenty loud for home playing.

But I like that Classic Rock sound too, and I only really ever ended up using the Plexi Model (UK 70's) and the JCM800 model (UK 80's) on the VOX, no effects. I guess I really don't need a modeling amp.

Re: VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

I bought a new AD50 a number of months ago. It has some good sounds when tweeked. I kinda wimped out on me a few times with the sound going to crap. I reset a few times and it seems to be doing ok now. I bought a small Vibro Champ and now use it more for practice than the Vox. Vox still sounds pretty good though. Gibsonblues ...

Re: VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

I went with the Vox after playing it at guitarcenter, the amp is pretty sweet. For anyone with a Vox, you NEED to checkout this killer site: ValveTronix Presets.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Re: VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

You should not regret your choice. I have the Cube 30 and I find it's a very good practice amp. It can handle classic rock and blues easily. Personally, I like the "Tweed" model for blues with just the right amount of gain (it really depends on your taste obviously). I use the "Brit Combo" model for most other stuff. By tweaking the amount of gain, you can get most classic rock sounds.

Re: VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

Hexa,

How "tube-like" is the Roland when you compare it to your Traynor YCV20WR?
I want to get the Roland and I have also been thinking about hat model Traynor too. Do you use both as practice amps? How would you characterize the build quality of the Traynor?

Re: VOX AD30VT vs. Roland Cube 30X

Alright fellas, I just got my Vox in the mail, and I have to say this thing kicks ass! It has a ton of manuverability with the amps, effects etc. It definitely gave me that classic rock sounds I wanted.

The Cube was a very good amp, but for what I was looking for the Vox was just better.
