Bigger isnt always better....
I recently upgraded my amp situation from a epi 5watt valve JR running through a marshall 4x12
![]() to a 100watt peavey windsor head. ![]() I'll have to say that IMO, I get a better tone from the stock epi valve 5 watt. Not nearly the volume, obviously, but, for garage jamming, you cant beat the tone of this little sucker going through a marshall cab. Anyone else had the same experience ? |

Re: Bigger isnt always better....
Dude, You took a huge leap there.
Ive got a Mesa Triple Rectifier that I have put 4 Yellojackets with EL84s in and just ordered a Weber attenuator to replace my ancient Sholz Power Soak. All to detune it some. Im a dumbass, I should have gotten something smaller but then I always get amp envy when someone brings in the halfstack. Of course I love the idea of 3 channels on my Mesa and the solo function. |

Re: Bigger isnt always better....
yes, it was a feast or famin decision. That peavey just wails. It's nice to have it if I need it. I couldnt pass it up. It was a scratch and dent item from zzsounds.com. I got it for $329 w/free shipping. The ONLY thing wrong with it was the cheap foot switch it came with had a cracked housing, BFD, you can get one of those anywhere. You can almost fit a plastic dog food can lid on it to replace it

Re: Bigger isnt always better....
Its probably the tubes in the Peavy; they use cheap crap in stock amps - change em to groove tubes or something and I'll sing alot better.

as much i as i don't need it my 4x12 will stay with me forever. i have no room for it, it is too loud most of the time, it is heavy, but when i am home alone, this house becomes madison square garden!!!!

Re: Bigger isnt always better....
unless your playing a cheap Ethiopian knockoff white studio LP, then you have to whack it like a awful step child to get any tone out of it
