Brought home a new amp this weekend

I had been saving up for months and finally narrowed my choices down to two amps: Splawn Quick Rod and Mesa Dual Rectifier. My local store is a Mesa dealer so I went over on Saturday. After 5 minutes dinking around with the Dual Rec I had my mind made up. I was always under the impression that these amps produced quality high gain tones but missed the mark in other areas, so I was pleasantly surprised. Clean channel is very warm and the two distortion channels are voiced differently giving you a wide range of tones to experiment with. I'll be able to crank this bad boy up at band rehearsal tomorrow evening and give it a true test. For now here's a picture just to show off.

Nice dude! I had a 3ch Dual Rec a few years ago. Also had a Tremoverb before that. They can kick some ass for sure!

Did you get the 2010 revision with Multi-Watt, and channel-specific Recto-Tracking?

It switches down to 50watts so you don't have to kill your bandmates while showing off!

Either way, Congrats!

Hey man, how are you liking the Dual Rec? Just thought I would check in since we both got new amps about the same time and I actually got mine from your recommendation to check out the Quick Rod.

I'm loving it. It's taking a little time to dial it in because it's pretty sensitive to minor EQ adjustments. On top of that the rear panel has things you can change and I'm still experimenting. I've had it at two band rehearsals so far and have another tonight. The second time with the band sounded much better than the first and I'm guessing tonight will be even better.

How is the Quick Rod working out for you?

I sold my JMP a while back for a Mesa Heartbreaker combo and I've been a huge Mesa fan ever since.

That diamond plate doesn't hurt anything either.

I like the diamond plate also. It looks as mean as it can sound.

Last night at band rehearsal this amp sounded fantastic. I spent some more time reading about the amp and dialing in some settings at home and it really paid off.

Re: Brought home a new amp this weekend

I love my Quick Rod. I had it out for its first gig last night and it sounded just monsterous! Big, full and punchy. Its very different from what I am used to, but I liked it a lot and found myself really getting locked into its tone and feel....it really did inspire me to play better. The guys in my band loved it too. They noticed a big difference in my tone and how it cut through the mix.
That was the biggest issue I had with my Dual Rec...it was sometimes tough to get it to sit right in the mix w/out it being too loud. I did put a MMOT in it and a few other minor mods by FJA and it helped some, but they are very low mid focused and its sometimes hard to separate that enough from the bass player.
Sounds like you are getting it dialed in though....they are mean and thunderous amps. Enjoy!
