Sunn were/are a subsidiary of Fender and the top photo you have is of a recentish reissue (around 2002 I think?)

The photo below will be of the older Sunn amps - maybe 1970's and from the size of that speaker probably a bass cab!

Re: Please Help me Identify this cab..thanks

I use a Trayner Bass Mate combo as a guitar amp...it's a dual el84 amp with a single 15" speaker......It's too quiet for bass...but screams as a guitar amp.....I know I shouldn't but I use guitar speakers for bass too....experimentation is how new sounds are created......and yes you could buy a head and runn that Sunn cab and say a 2x12 along with it.....I haxe a Peavey Windsor head too and use a 2x12 and a 1x15 for bass and guitar...I love it......if you don't want it and will ship it to me I'll gladly use it but I bet you will find use for it....trust me....try it and see if you like it.....it would be especially useful if you down-tune or have a 7 string I don't but still like the added range and tone I can get

and if you don't want it please send it here....I'm in canada to so I wouldn't have to pay duties

Ever hear of the Fender BASSMAN? Same idea. Bass amp that sounded better with guitar.

A cabinet is a cabinet. Usually the speakers in a bass cab will be higher power handling, lower frequency response, but still work and sound fine with a guitar.

It's probably a 4 ohm cab, so you need a head with 4 ohm capability.

Re: Please Help me Identify this cab..thanks

I actually have a vintage Sunn Concert Bass that I play guitar through strictly.

I had absolutely no faith in that thing at all, but it always had awesome cleans... Then I got some pedals for it and it rocked. But, it still isn't a tube amp.

The cab I have is loaded with vintage Sunn bass speakers... And I have no problems whatsoever.

Re: Please Help me Identify this cab..thanks

it should if it matches the impedance of the cab......like 4 ohms or 8 ohms.....or whatever the cab is rated at

Valve states aren't bad heads at all. But, if your looking for tube tone, I would go for an all-tube amp.

Re: Please Help me Identify this cab..thanks

I had one just like it in the 70's but
it had a Cerwin Vega 1 18" speaker

that amp is a Model T

Sunn was its own manufacturing company in Oregon
i used to sell them in Oregon, if Fender bought them out
thats too bad.

Re: Please Help me Identify this cab..thanks

It's probably something dumb like 6 ohms.

Since its a single speaker you can figure out the ohms as the speaker is marked easy enough, unless its located on the back panel somewhere.

Re: Please Help me Identify this cab..thanks

it's an 18...that's awesome.....if it measures out to 6 - 7.5 ohms that's considered an 8 ohm speaker....the nominal impedance of a speaker is taken at resonant frequency and your ohm meter will read DC ohms....so if it ohms out at even 5.5 - 8 ohms I'd say it's an 8 ohm speaker.....mind you most 8 ohm speakers have at least a 6 ohm DC resistance

that went with it, it was a 400 watt speaker.

If you're interested...the speaker is an Eminence (EIA source code for Eminence is 67) and it was manufactured in the 29th week of 1970.

Heres a thought, can i remove that big speaker and build a new cab around this unit?

Re: Please Help me Identify this cab..thanks

sure, you could fit it out for 2-12s if you wanted.

but try the 18 first. You might really be surprised, especially if you push an all tube amp through it.

I've always been fond of 18" Black Widows. Indestructable.

One of the 2-12 cabs I'm using right now is an old Sunn (has EVs in it). The thing is a tank, but it works.

Re: Please Help me Identify this cab..thanks

I probably wouldn't use an amp with a 16 ohm output into a 4 ohm cab. To confirm what the speaker's impedence is, measure with a multimeter set to measure resistance (ohms) across the speaker terminals. It will measure a bit below the impedence rating (for example, if its a 4 ohm speaker it will measure around 3.4 ohms, if its 16 it will measure maybe 12).
