Re: Show your amp!

COOL those look kind of like the old Univox amps that Jeff Beck
had with Beck Bogart and Appice.

(these are the bass amps, Beck had 4-12" cabs like the Gibsons)

Re: Show your amp!

Thanks Everyone.

It took me forever to find the 2nd cabinet. I had the 1/2 stack for years before finding the 2nd matching cab.

Hey Needlespauls, That stand that the GA-5 is sitting on is actually a Radio Shack Speaker stand from back in the 80's. It looks nice, but that's about it. You lose some bass response when it's on the stand. I usually play with it on the ground.

Re: Show your amp!

My Valve Junior, Peavey Windsor, and YCV40.....all on home made extension Cabs (I built the 1x12, the large 2x12, but bought the 1x15 the YCV40 is on (the EV driver goes up for sale online for 200 alone And I got it in a home made EV designed cab for $100)

My Traynor Bass Mate

I use these amps for both guitar and bass....all give the bass an oldschool sound I like....

I also have an old Traynor Custom Reverb - not working, a small "Velvetone" tube combo and a Pignose......

Damn man! That is beautiful. Those old bassmans were one of the ultimate amps in my opinion. I've played re-issues and, partly because of the SS rectifiers they are not the same. Maybe they have made some changes though. Cool tool though man. Thanks for posting.

The new Ris have a tube rectifier, also the first ones had ss but plugged into a reg, tube socket, I had one from the first year Fender brouht them out and you can put a tube in them.
The new LTD lacqured Bass man come with the new grove tube 6L6 and a tube rect. They are prety good; sound and look better than the older ones. the old ones had badly made 5881 power tubes. The new grove tube 6L6s are great IMO

Re: Show your amp!

Just did a cab for my girls and showing it off.... a black shadow and an eminence at 16 ohm, works awesome. I might have total of $300 in it.

Mine has a lot more "character", but it's the same amp. Rivera Rakehead. Marshall dirty w/ Fender cleans.

I had heard that the old SS rectifiers were fairly easy to change. A friend had one that he used as a harp amp and switched things and the tone improved a lot. The only thing he missed was reverb which is why he sold the amp and went with a couple of vintage Super reverbs.

Re: Show your amp!

I use a tape echo in my rig, so the reverb isn't needed...it can usually be added at the board, though.

I prefer the spongy response of a tube rectifier, but if playing heavier stuff the SS response time is nice.
