Keep Peavey Classic 30 or get a Tiny Terror/Night Train?
So here's my situation. I really like my Peavey Classic 30. I think the tone is great. My only complaint is that it's 30 watts and I pretty much just play at home now. I'll occasionally jam with some friends, and might possibly do some open mic nights in the future...but who knows if that will even happen. I don't necessarily play at bedroom volumes, maybe a little louder...but not enough to get the full potential of the amp.
I see that all these cool low watt amps are becoming very popular. I have yet to try one, but all the clips I've heard sound great. The two that stuck out are the Orange Tiny Terror and the Vox Night Train (didn't care for the Black Star...but that's just from YouTube clips, so who knows). From the clips, I think I like the Tiny Terror more...but I'd probably have to try them both out in person (if possible...does GC sell Orange)? The Peavey Classic 30 has versatility...but I mainly play overdriven and I don't need a crystal clear clean. The only negative I can see with those two amps is no effects loop...I usually like to use a little reverb when jamming at home...but maybe it's not that big of a deal. Not sure if I'll miss it or not. Any advice? The Classic 30 does sound good at lower volumes...should I just leave it be? Or would I benefit more from the lower watt amps? I guess only my ears will tell...but I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts. Thanks! |

How about owning both?
Keep the C30 for future gigs (you never know), and use it's speaker for the Orange at home. |

I actually thought about that. Unforuntely something needs to go in order for the new amp purchase. So it's either sell one of my guitars (a lower end one), buy the Orange, and keep the Peavey or sell the Peavey, keep the guitar I might consider selling, and have the Orange (I'd have to find a cheap cab). It's a tough decision because I don't know if I wanna sell the guitar. Decisions, decisions...

i agree- you're better off keeping the classic 30 and using it as a cab for one of the smaller heads, assuming it has a jack for the speaker or a cable with jack connected internally you can use. I own a night train and i'm very happy with it. I originally used it with my blues junior as a cab, as the speaker is wired with a jack in the cab then plugged in at the back. Was just about long enough to plug a separate head in. I now play through a blackheart 1x12 cab which was cheap and sounds great. Go compare the tt and nt if you can. Also check out the new dual terror, switchable from 30 to 15 and 7.5 watts

Re: Keep Peavey Classic 30 or get a Tiny Terror/Night Train?
I really liked the Tiny Terror combo that I tried, though it was $800. I heard some great tones coming out of that even at relatively low volumes. The head might ultimately cost you more, but gives more flexibility than the combo. I too like to play overdriven a lot of the time, so the Tiny Terror was a real possibility. I just couldn't justify it at the time since I already owned the Blackstar HT-5.
The Night Train I've yet to listen to, but others might be able to give you an opinion on that one. I have been impressed with offer Vox offerings, but for different reasons that the Tiny Terror. Your musical interests will probably drive which one works better for you though. I hated selling each piece of gear I got rid of this past year, but it is probably best to go with what works best for your current needs. If having an extra amp would serve you better than the extra guitar, then I'd sell the guitar. The amp actually has more to do with the final tone than the guitar anyways, in my opinion anyways. Otherwise just go with your original plan. If you are not getting what you know you can out of your amp, then you probably won't be satisfied with it in the long run. You can always buy another one down the road. Sticking with what you've got? Man, this is the wrong place to ask about that! Spend money and keep the economy going. Lord knows I haven't been able to help much in that area lately, so someone's got to do it! ![]() David |

Don't sell it. I did that. I wished I hadn't. It's worth more to keep than it is to sell.

Don't worry about pushing them so much, they're nice amps for a low price that need to be heard!

DON"T SELL THE C30... You will regret it.. Im all up for the Jet City.. I'm really digging my JCA 2112 combo!
side note..I only use the pod for practice with headphones... it's bad juju to use it live when I have 4 real tube amps to choose from![]()

I would like to recommend that you actively seek out a Tiny Terror or a Night Train, and consider selling the Peavey. To me, that is. I've been looking around for one, and I've just not hit the right amp at the right price at the right time...!

As for the lack of a loop on the NT - not a problem for me. I play a digitech hardwire reverb into the front of my NT which sound great.

Re: Keep Peavey Classic 30 or get a Tiny Terror/Night Train?
Well it looks like if I go through with this, I'll end up selling the guitar and keeping the Peavey. I just like the Classic 30 too much to get rid of it. Now I just gotta go test these amps out and see if it's what I really want. Thanks for the help everyone!
