Amp rant

Since my Vox Valvetronix was on the fritz...but now mysteriously seems to work just fine, I've concluded that I don't much care for modeling amps any longer, Perhaps there's just too much technology their trying to stuff into each AMP... I don`t know. I think I might just get a new tube amp but I`m uncertain of what. I really love the tone of the AD series Orange amps. A friend recently suggested Hughes/Kettner but I`ve never had any experience with them but very open minded.
I dislike any of the newer Marshalls.
By the way, I play very 70's influenced hard rock mainly (I can't say classic rock) on a BJ Les Paul Junior.

Re: Amp rant

Hello,

I have a old Fender Deluxe Reverb and for me its the best amp made ever, I had a gig on sunday and just before I was about to start my set the amp stopped working (fuse I think and I didn't have a spare) so I had to borrow the last bands amp. It was a Hughes/Kettner combo..this was the 1st time I have EVER used one and it sounded GREAT! I loved it by the end of the 2nd song I got some fantastic tone out of the amp and just had a really good time..in fact if it had valves in it I would buy one and use it all the time!

Re: Amp rant

I got a Genz Benz, costwise I think a great middle-of-the-road amp, sound / tone to die for.

Re: Amp rant

i agree with you 100%. too much BS going into amps and gear nowadays.

Id rec a JCM 900. and with a set of decent tubes it will fit your genre from clean to mean
the mesa F-50 and like they said the Marshall VM is also very nice.

a super or Twin and an OD pedalof your choice will work too

Re: Amp rant

Wow Deja Vu, I just went through the same thing. I had a Traynor YCV40T that I changed the speakers and tubes in and just could not get the sound I was looking for. I then lost my marbles and bought a Line 6 Flextone III. I really thought it was going to be the one that gave me what I was looking for. NOT. I then started to demo many diffenrent amps. Genz Benz Black Pearl - Great Amp! Budda Super Drive 18 Great Amp! Marshall 1974X Yep You guessed it Great Amp. I think you have to start with a budjet in mind and really consider how much you intend to spend. I finally chose Ceriatone Hand wired 36W EF86 wow! Quite impressive. One channel is Old School Marshall all the way the other channel is VOX AC30 ish really a great combination. You can also check out almost every amp on you tube.

Good Luck

not for nothin', but did you try resetting your vox???...I had mine F'd up, and went on line, and read where you turn it off, and hold down the write and channel buttons at the same time, ( I think that's it) then turn it on again, and it resets to original factory settings.then press write again..( just reset mine to make sure...LOL)..I was looking for a new amp...(LOL)...I think I wound up getting another axe instead...
