Best Dr. Z amp?
Just a simple question here... If you had to pick one Dr. Z amp and their best, which one would it be?

Re: Best Dr. Z amp?
Would go with the above 2, but I'd say the MAZ is more flexible. Never tried the Remedy though.

Re: Best Dr. Z amp?
My brother has/had a MAZ 18, then tried a Z28. He said he loved the MAZ in the store and playing alone but at a gig the Z28 was a better amp for playing well with others. The MAZ is an el84 amp, the Z28 a 6L6 amp. The Z28 adds an EF86 tube to the preamp I think, some Dr Z's do and I think that one does.
My R4 loves the Z28. The neck pup never sounded so good. The MAZ sold last week and he has a Remedy. LOVES it. I haven't tried it yet. Cool thing is the two volume controls. Kinda like jumping a Tweed but w/o jumping. Mix tones from each. Neil |

Re: Best Dr. Z amp?
Correction the Z28 is a 6V6 amp. The tone controls on the Z28 are more like volume controls for bass and treble. And each add gain as well as tone, or that's the way it seems when you play it.
The Remedy I think has more of a normal operation tone stack though. So far my brother likes the Remedy over all the others he's had. I was kinda surprised when I read the description as being so "plexi" like 'cause he has never shown any interest in anything Marshall at all. And yet this one really does it for him. He plays all Fender and G&L. Neil |

Re: Best Dr. Z amp?
6V6's, now that sounds interesting. I think that's the same tube that comes with the Remedy...
How about the Route 66, any good? Carmen Ghia?

Re: Best Dr. Z amp?
Yup the Remedy is 4 6V6's, 40/20 watts via switch to cut power. The Z28 is 2 6V6's and 22 watts
The Carmen Ghia gets rave reviews. I never played one. On Youtube there are solos by Buddy Wittington with a Ghia that just sing. Neil |

Re: Best Dr. Z amp?
Remedy or Maz series for me. I was pretty set on getting a Maz.38 NR head to run through my Orange 4x12 cab
(THAT is a bad ass set-up). I have played literally, every single Dr.Z amp and those are my two favorites The Carmen Ghia is probably my least favorite.. Probably because it is so unnecessarily loud!!! Like, seriously... That is a LOUD, LOUD, LOUD amp!!! Other than volume issues, that is a killer amp if you like dirt!
