Re: Marshall Stack??

You can get a JCM 900 for under $1000 on ebay, often with a cabinet. They're great two channel amps.

Of course if you want to try one really cheap, rent some time at a rehearsal studio. Most places are about $20 an hour and I've yet o see one without a Marshall.

Re: Marshall Stack??

You're not going to find a whole Marshall stack for that kind of money. Not a good one anyway.

Yeah, Those are GREAT quality... *sarcastic*

I'd say shoot for a used Marshall Halfstack, and just save up and get another cab later.

Re: Marshall Stack??

Most Marshall heads are gonna run nearly $2000 or more.........

My solution has been the older Valvestates (NOT THE MG which are ok as well), you can find them used for around $250-300 for the head, and then get cabinets off craigslist or other used gear sites.

Or just wait someone will post their gear for sale and you can score good stuff for decent prices on here.

Here's the VS100 stack-

$2000 really limits your options here.....................and just where do you plan to play this Marshall stack? Might be nice to have...................but impractical as hell.

Re: Marshall Stack??

If you're willing to buy used you can get something nice. Check out JCM 800 2203's. I got a 2203 head and a 1960a cab not too long ago. Don't remember exactly what I paid but it was under $2000 and it is the best amp I've ever played, and I used to own a Triple Rectifier.

Re: Marshall Stack??

If you're patient and willing to buy used, you can probably put a nice stack together for that money-probably even less. I put my 1/2 stack together for about 1300.

I got my 1987x Plexi reissue for about $900 from a dealer off Ebay. There was not a mark on that amp. I picked up an essentially brand new 1960AV cab for $400 from a local guitar center. At the time, there were a bunch of Marshall cabs on craig's list between 300-500, so I could have put a full stack together for about 1800 if I'd wanted to.

I'd stay away from the MG stuff. The cabs are ok I guess if you don't mind the MDF construction, but you'll have to upgrade the speakers and the cost of that is going to put you right back into the same territory as a used 1960 cab, so what's the point?

Good luck,

Rob
