Re: Build your own Amp

****WARNING****

Current involved in building a tube amp is HIGHLY dangerous. Be careful if you attempt to build your own tube amp!

I know there are already plenty of warnings on all the DIY sites, but I just don't want to see anybody kill themselves, or damage their internal organs, or get severely burned... well... you get the picture.

Play safe kids!

I've been wanting to build a Bassman or a Deluxe Reverb for a long time. No time lately though.

I've built a Tweed Champ and I'm starting on a Tweed Deluxe 5E3, gathering parts as we speak, will probably try a Marshall clone after that, an 18 watter!!

Re: Build your own Amp

I have been considering building an 18 watt clone but recently opted to let Nik at Ceriatone build it instead. It really is not that hard to do but I just dont have the time to do it myself. I went with the 36 watt EF86. This is basically an 18 watter with 2 additional EL84 power tubes and an added EF86 in the second channel to sound VOX like. So on channel one there is the classic Marshall tone with 4 EL84 and 3 12AX7 and a tube rect. On Channel 2 there is the same with the addition of the EF86 for a VOX tone. I think it is the most veratile option. I had them add an effects loop and you can switch off 2 of the EL84 tubes to power down to 18watts. I cant wait for it to arrive.

No, No kit just bought the chassis and trannys from Weber but I have alot of NOS caps, resistors, wire, etc... that I've collected along the way.

I'll get some pics soon, just got the cab built for the champ and haven't tolexed it yet but I'm going to cover it with some seafoam green vinyl I got at a local fabric store!

Re: Build your own Amp

I've worked on amps a fair amount, but its almost always modding, repairing or rebuilding an existing amp rather than from the ground up. I've started one using a "kit" of sorts recently - I have a prebuilt chassis and headbox, and then have had to assemble the various other parts. Its slow going for me because I'm not terribly organized with my hobbies.

Re: Build your own Amp

Great video. I'm actually saving up to get an 18w kit patterned after the Marshall 1974X. Problem is, which one?
