Speaker Advise Needed FAST!!!!

I have a chance to pick up a slightly used Eminence Texas Heat 12" 8 ohm speaker CHEAP! It's a 150 watt speak. I want to use it in a 1x12" cab as an extension speaker for a Mesa 5:25 Express. Is this too much speaker for a 25-30 watt amp? Should I get something w/ lower wattage?
Please advise poor pappy, oh wise amplifer guru's of MPLF!!!
Thanks in advance

Re: Speaker Advise Needed FAST!!!!

I run a 5 watt amp through a 200 watt 4x12 so, I don't see why the wattage would be an issue. Speaker watts capacity is something you don't want to exceed. Under the rating is OK.

Make sure the speaker impedance matches your amp's output and make sure that the speaker wattage rating is greater than your amp's output. So, a 30 watt amp running through a 150 watt speaker isn't a problem as long as the speaker impedance (in this case 8 ohms) matches the requirement of the amp.

Re: Speaker Advise Needed FAST!!!!

I'm running a 50 watt Cannabis Rex in my 15 watt Blues Jr and it sounds great. I'd say go for it.

Re: Speaker Advise Needed FAST!!!!

Well.... I got the Emi Texas Heat this weekend and installed it in a Epi Valve Jr 1 x 12"extension cab.
I tried it through my Boogie 5:25 8 ohm jack, by it's self and was pleased.
No farting out on the lows. crisp mids and highs
Played with both the internal 10" and the 1X12" extension plugged in to the 4 ohm jacks and again was pleased w/ the sound. Great cleans good sparkle on the blues setting.
I used my Firebird V all afternoon and was impressed with the over all performance using the TH as a stand alone and in unison w/ the internal 10".
I got the TH for $30, still in the box, so I'm happy w/ the $$ and the speaker!
Thanks to all for their advise
