Hey all, I just got my first Mesa/Boogie, a DC-5.
It's just the head, and I put it on top of a Mesa Recto 212. can yall tell me anything about these Dual Caliber (DC) amps? thanks...

Re: Mesa/Boogie Dual Caliber
I usually hang out on the Mark V section since I got mine 4 months ago, but there is a sub-forum for the dual caliber. Here's the link:

Re: Mesa/Boogie Dual Caliber
It's a Dual Channel amp as the name imply (ch 1- clean/ch 2 OD)
Mine was a DC 10 and it has a push/pull volume pot on clean for boost. Check your clean vol pot for this coz I am not sure. Parallel effect loop a slave out , silent recording mode all in the back. Here's the Manual for more in depth info.

Re: Mesa/Boogie Dual Caliber
Thanks! Actually I had already posted there AND dl'd that manual.
I was hoping some DC owner might tell me something beyond that... Some inside info or whatever. Thanks again.

Re: Mesa/Boogie Dual Caliber
took it to the shop today.
replaced both 6L6's with same Mesa STR 420 stock. noticeable improvement in tone. changed the number 2 & 3 12AX7 with same Mesa stock. no noticeable change. Also gave it a thorough cleaning, looks MUCH better! There is a random rumbling sound when the amp is super cranked and no signal passing through. (muted guitar).sound familiar to anyone? Proabably going to drop it off at the Mesa factory for the refurb service. $120-$215 they say... still stoked. it plays well and sounds great!

Re: Mesa/Boogie Dual Caliber
I have a friends who has one of these. I never really warmed up to it for the longest time, and it took him quite some time to get it dialed in to what he was looking for.
Lately, it's been sounding a whole lot better than in the past.

Re: Mesa/Boogie Dual Caliber
a friend, who is a really great guitar player & big time Mesa owner/ user was checking it out and he dialed up some serious tones on it.
Super sweet clean with some of the built in Spring Reverb. Then he went to the over drive channel, went for some extreme eq setting and showed me how this amp does a killer Metallica tone. it was pretty amazing to see... sounded like Kurt was standing right there playing!

Re: Mesa/Boogie Dual Caliber
If you want to really bring out the tone in that amp, the best mod you can do now is to drop a Mercury Magnetics transformer into it....

Re: Mesa/Boogie Dual Caliber
after i get it stock and healthy, and become familiar with, i might.
Ive been thinking about it for the harmonic and tonal bene's. But as these are studio machines first, an i have privatized my main studio and put in a residential location, i almost need my watts to go down, not up. i.e. i need to make these amps quieter. 1 power soaker coming up...
