To a certain degree gear doesn't matter if you don't have the skills to fully utilize the stuff you have.
Very true, same would apply to the basic 1-4-5. That's the foundation for so many easy songs, including a few GNR songs and plenty of other rock stuff.

How about scales? The modes?

Man, a good and tasty solo is way cooler than lots of random notes played real fast!

Lots of fun when you play with friends and they "give you an A" and you start throwing some licks on top. That's how many great songs got started..

In a way, sorry, but you can't play, you just memorize and follow tabs. That's not what guitar is about I would think.

They're discontinued now, but check into the marshall Valvestate/AVT line. They can do a good clean and overdriven tone.

Re: What Cheap Amp Should I Get For My Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst?

IMHO Roland make great little amps with nice options and REAL volume for their size.

Check out the Cube series.

I also am the owner of a Peavey Vypyr 75. As far as modeling amps go, The Vypyrs shit all over Line 6. Sorry..But it is true.

Even a nice small 5 watt Crate v5 Tube could go for under 150..and they sound nice.

If you want a dark sound though...check out the Roland 15 or Vypyr 15 both around 150

Re: What Cheap Amp Should I Get For My Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst?

this kid realy irritates me. of course i AM new to the forum but this kid just seems like a snobbish brat. im 16, only been playing 10 months however unlike him ive bought every single guitar related thing without parents help (epiphone zakk wylde buzzsaw LP, lany APR pro tube head, marshall 1960 cab, rockfield pickups (which i wired, coil tapped, AND PG modded myself) graphtech nut and bridge, grover tuners. and im getting a custom guitar made for me at my local guitar shop.) the whole reason i have that job at the shop is because the manager was blown away with my talent even though i had limited experience, and lack of any lessons at all. know why? because i play at least 5 hours every day, i give up whole weekends to play guitar rather than go party. buying a good guitar doesnt make you any better infact if you cant play any chords you shoulnt buy a second guitar. especially a LP. get off this forum and go play damn it. i can see everyone here is tired of your immaturity.

sorry for the bad grammar i dont pay attention to it when im ranting

Re: What Cheap Amp Should I Get For My Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst?

You should have grown up in the '70s learning to play guitar. If you didn't do then the things you are doing now, you wouldn't learn to play much of anything or have much cool gear. Long hours practicing and learning mixed with DIY gear and part time jobs after school to pay for it.

Ah, the good ol' days.

Actually id rather to have learned back then. better music not that "noise" and rap sh*t you hear on the radio these days. i learn alot by ear anyways. or at least i try to. i find the song coming more naturally when you play it because you're listening to the song (or the rest of the band you're with) rather then yourself.

Re: What Cheap Amp Should I Get For My Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst?

$120 US Epiphone Valve Junior Class A 5w Tube. They rock and are PLENTY loud...I can drive my Marshall 4x10 with it and cannot put it past 12 o'clock without shaking the house. The matching speaker cabs are really nice and have an Eminance in them. Or you could go for the Blackheart 5w as well. So many easy cheap mods for the VJ as well, it is a tone monster. Either way you are getting a Class A tube and you cannot ever go wrong with that!

Re: What Cheap Amp Should I Get For My Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst?

This is the same kid, I think, who wanted to buy a wah pedal to "bend" notes.

You know, you can do whatever you want and have all the money, but if your mommy bought you that LP how do you have a face now to go ask for digital delay pedals and gear when you can't strum a chord clean?

Re: What Cheap Amp Should I Get For My Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst?

So, what happened with that guy?

I see that a bunch of his threads have been removed and that he has been shown the door.

Did he say some naughty words?

Edit : Never mind, I just saw Flicks post describing the events in Backstage.
