Re: Zvex Nano!??!!

i'm totally entrigued by this amp as well. seems to sound great. Its good to have options like this, especially where someone like myself is not in a position to have any more than 5watts tube in the house. My GA-5 practically takes my house down if you make it. The thing is, with smaller engineered hand made amps like this, the cost is big. They're like $475, then if you dont have a cab, you then have to buy one. An even better option for the money I feel, is the Bumbox(pronounced Boombox) Lead One head. This guy Nathan out of Ohio makes them. 1 Watt, all tube, very versatile, great reviews. Gorgeous classic looks too.......God I want one of these. I don't have any cabs anymore so that would be another thing to buy. Jeez. Also, consider the Blackheart Engineering Killer Ant Ministack. 1watt head, 1x10 cab. Not out yet, but really cheap I assume. probably barely $200 for the stack. Heres the Bumbox and the Blackheart.

Re: Zvex Nano!??!!

Just got my Carr Mercury, similar, expensive, 8 watts, down to 1/10 watt, but a 12" combo.
I started a thread on it monthas ago. I'll add to it with pics later.
Anyway, I want one of those nanos, but am quite happy with the Carr, plus I gots Reverb ( Spring, tube type )

The Nano is just such a novelty though, makes you grin just thinking about it.

Re: Zvex Nano!??!!

An alternative might be the Gilmore Jnr 1/2 Watt build it yourself job found here http://www.guytronix.com/
I'm hugely interested in this topic as I have a 30 Watt Laney that's not really suitable for home use - I get a much better low volume tone from my Guitarport! So I'm hungry for a workable solution (other than the Guitarport that is).
I tried a Epi Jnr 5 Watt Head but that's still ear splittingly loud for home use and looking at the Watts to decibels charts, from memory it seems to half that volume I would need a 1/2 Watt amp.

I'm so close to pushing the button on the Gilmore but the recent talk of attenuators and the looming new weber attentuator are holding me back for now.

Regards

JohnS

Re: Zvex Nano!??!!

I want one. Can it be used at low volumes effectively? I want it for home practice only, probably plugged into a 1 x 12 Cab with Celestion Vintage 30. Is this a good idea?

I am in the process of ordering a Minimat from Matamp Official Website. I have never heard one and buying from them on recommendation. Apparently they are amazing.

Re: Zvex Nano!??!!

Google Collins Amps as well. Not only very cool range of "real" amps but he also has a teeny amp as well. Nope my mistake, I think it is another 5 watter but look at it anyway. Fits in your hand.

Re: Zvex Nano!??!!

Tried the Z-vex but went for the BH Killer ant with Bitmo kit and NOS 12AY7 + 12AX7 tubes. Sounds at least as good and way cheaper.

Re: Zvex Nano!??!!

+1 for the Killer Ant...

I bought the killer ant a few months ago and modded it with the bitmo kit. Running through a Blackheart 1x12 cab - sounds great. The tone control the mod adds is really worth it - helps to brighten up the amp a bit with my Les Paul. If I want to play a bit louder I simply run the line out (also thanks to Bitmo) of the killer ant into my fender blues junior - fantastic OD at any volume level.

I like Zvex, but the nano is just a Gadget, for a good sounding mini amp I prefer this 7 watt amp:

Another 1/2 watt with tons of tube options and outputs. Google "rockblock amp"
