Bugera

I'm thinking of buying a bugera 1960 amp, but it seems suspiciously cheap. $450 for a 150-watt tube amp. How do you guys feel about Bugera amps? Thanks for any feedback.

Its the most wonderful amp I have ever played!!!!!!It has the best cleans I have ever heard and the crunch channels are to die for, think JCM 800 and Silver Jubilee. The build quuality is top notch, hand wired, point to point, very tidy.It really should cost over 4,000$.Just kidding, garbage. Why do you think it is so CHEAP as you say?

You would be surprised at their quality. Check out their website. Had a 333XL for over a year, played the crap out of it, no issues, sounded wonderful.

Hey, smartypants....I repair guitars and amps for a living. I have had several in here, and all were crap. Garbage components poorly constructed.

Feel free to judge me more, you are doing SUCH a good job.

Bugera is a major advertiser in Guitar Player. Unless Greg is a dealer, he's getting nothing from Behringer. Why trust a review published by a corporate media company with an inherent conflict of interest over an informed and presumably disinterested party?

Re: Bugera

When I was building for Stone Tone guitars, we had a review in the Guitar Player magazine that was given out at NAMM. They told us that if we bought a 1/2 page, they'd give us a great review....BEFORE we sent the guitar.

Tennisplayer, you are in need of experience in life.

And no....I am not a Behringer dealer. I wouldn't sell that shit if you held a gun to my head.

Well that's disgraceful, shouldn't really be surprised but these people know how much effect a good or bad review has on your product.

Re: Bugera

Its common knowledge that Behringer is garbage.GARBAGE.(thats a period)Thats as common knowledge as it gets.Everybody who knows about product knows that.Whats the arguement? From some guy that use to own one?Ask him where its at?Guitar player has a huge money making contract with Behringer.Think about it.

Re: Bugera

It doesn't matter if it's amp, cars, or eggbeaters. Advertisers pay the required price to have their products featured and given rave reviews. I've been there and done it! Unfortunately, that's just the way of it! BCRGreg knows exactly what he's talking about and is talking from experience and expertise.

Quality can be defined in terms durability, tone, materials, design, construction, aesthetics, etc. I have no first hand experience with Bugera amps, but people I respect rate them poorly in most categories.

Because I think it's a nice product? What, are you in the 6th grade or something? Do you own one? Didn't think so. Many magazines have taken the Bugera's apart and agree that it is built as good or better than many amps mass produced today. I love bashers who have never seen a product yet bash it.

Can anyone be objective about it? Which component typically fails in a Bugera amp, for those who get them routinely in repairs?

It's not as if Greg said that the amps sounded bad, or that your perception of tone was off. He said that the amps were poorly constructed and unreliable, which, it seems, is the same thing that several other users have reported. Given that Greg runs a music store and doesn't seem to have a dog in this race, I'm inclined to believe his assessment. GP gave a couple of Bugera amps a good review, but given that their review period is usually only one or two months, I can see why long term reliability wouldn't be on their radar.

Actually, this seems to be the general consensus regarding many Behringer products. Many people have commented positively on the tone of some of their amps, but reliability seems to be a serious issue.

Well I honestly can't say anything bad about them. Friend of mine has a Bugera 333. He gets a really good sound out of it and has had no trouble in twelve months or so.

It's not my preference in what it particularly offers but I think it's bloody good value for a tube amp that's for sure.

From what I have read most of the reliability issues were when the amp was first released. I haven't heard of this so much recently.

Re: Bugera

I've played a couple, they werent horrid to my ears, didnt impress me at all either. IMO they are way overkill for their target audience period, budget minded bedroom rockers. Theres a big difference in holding up well at lower volumes rooted in one spot, VS being taken on the road day in and day out, tossed around in and out of vans, trunks, knocked over and pushed really hard for long periods of time on a regular basis , an amp of that size is meant to blow the doors open at large clubs, not jamming around in a bedroom/living room/basement/garage etc.

Tennisplayer, how many big gigs did you take yours on? BCRGreg knows his stuff, and holds gear opinions up to raod worthy standards, I'm not saying this to belittle you, just pointing out a major differnce on how both your opinions are based.
