Question about 2x12 amps

I have an old crate tube amp 2x12 and it's WAY too loud for use in the house. If I just unplug one of the speakers will that affect the amp or sound in any other way than just not being as loud. I know that may sound stupid but I dont know much about amps...I've only been playing through them for 20+ years.

Don't do it - it will change the load on the output transformer and might hurt your amp.

alright, thanks Tom, after posting I realized at the same volume and tone settings with one speaker and then two that it was a thinner less bassy sound with just one speaker so I plugged the other one in. It was only unplugged for a minutes worth of playing so I guess I didnt hurt anything.
