Metroamp 50 watt Plexi build pics

Hello everyone,

I just starting building my amp on Saturday and I have put in a good 4 hours of work. I highly recommend this kit to anyone who has a patience and can solder. I am enjoying it but here are some of the pictures of my build.

Enjoy!

Have fun and take your time, it will sound awesome when it is done but you will miss the build... at least I did. And now I'm left trying to figure out how I can buy a 45/100... lol.

Enjoy!

Haha yeah, I was looking at those also...there just so expensive, I'm trying to figure out if it would be better to go ahead and buy the original Marshall Plexi off ebay...

Oh and a question for you were they the vintage models? or the new ones? That there makes a ton of difference also.

Re: Metroamp 50 watt Plexi build pics

You won't find a '68 JMP for a grand I can tell ya that and nothing HW... I would believe he is talking about the PCB 1987x new models that you read about people having troubles with (not that the new Marshall HW stuff doesn't suck too... it's like playing russian roulette). Yea, the JTM 45 is a less expensive kit, I was talking about the '66 JTM 45/100's.

No, a 1987x is a reissue. No way you'll get a vintage plexi head for the prices I mentioned.

correct I was talking about the reissue. Not read about any problems with them though. Are you sure you're not thinking of the 1974x? That model has had lots of problems.

I'm 15 years old...I have the attention span of a fish and I even I can do it. I trust that you would be very good at building one.

Yeah that's the next amp I want but...it's going to be a while because those are a lot of money! If you were a tech in the Navy it would be
simple, I don't have much experience and doing it.

I don't know, these are just a few issues that I have seen float around and I do know that there are a ton more Marshalls out there that probably are reliable. It just seems as if they are using sub-par parts and charging top shelf prices (this is new Marshalls, the "real" old school ones are tanks), makes more sense, to me, to build your own for less and with top shelf parts for decent prices. Just my .02... and back to the OP, keep on cruising and keep the build pics coming!

ok, but none of those are the 1987x which is what you specifically referenced.

I'm sure though enough googling will find a problem thread on that model (and others) too.

FWIW I like the idea of a build your own also. Been thinking about it myself.

Re: Metroamp 50 watt Plexi build pics

I would like to give you one reccomendation, what we found out is it is best to label each part on the chasis because they use codes for each one through out the manual ( I reccomend using a pencil so you erase after your finished).

I have actualy seen the opposite, i have had 6
new marshalls and never had a problem but i used
to blow transformers on my old plexis back in the
day.
But there is one difference, back then i played them
on 9, and i dont play my new amps even at half
that volume. Also back in those days nobody knew about
Mercury Magnetics OT's like they do now, and to tell the truth
about 90% of rock musicians never heard of "Biasing" they would
just buy new tubes and jam them in.

so i think it has alot to do with how much you work
and how loud you play?
Since im no longer a concert musician, i probably wont
have any problems with any amp at the volumes i play.
Thats just my 2 cents

70's and 80's rock musicians were alot less tech smart than
they are now
