Alnico speakers vs Celestions

So I have a valve junior that's been modded. Through the stock weber speaker (8") it sounds fantastic, though quieter and lacking in low end compared to the ported and closed back 1x12 I have that I sometimes run it through. The mids however are sooooo warm through the stock 8", sounds fantastic. Then I switch over to the greenback 1x12 and it's just...dull.

Diameter differences aside, you guys think an alnico will give me the warm midrange I'm missing?

Re: Alnico speakers vs Celestions

Celestion has three different Alnico's you should try them out.
The Blue, the Gold and 10" Gold

here is a Celestion demo using Alnico Golds

Re: Alnico speakers vs Celestions

hey thanks for the link coldsteal. i'm more of a rhythm/jazz style player so it's hard to tell if that's the sound I'm looking for from that overdriven tone, but i appreciate it nonetheless.

Re: Alnico speakers vs Celestions

That I have not, but I figured the detuned port in the front would make it sound rather strange with an open back. Unless there are actually open back ported cabs I'm not aware of. I've never heard of one personally. Plus, I don't want to lose the bass response.

Maybe I'll try it today.
