Fender 57 tweed deluxe
so i just skimmed thru some guitar mags i have lyin´ round the house and an aticle about the reissue of the legndary 57 tweed dleuxe amp from fender caught my eye( yeah yeah i know its been out for some time, but well......).
everyone from bfg ( gibbons that is) to countless nashville session players dig that amp so i want to know which mlplers use that lil´ monster!?! i personally havent played one i only have bassman experience. but since that reviewer hollered how fuckin amazing that amp is i thought i might get some more opinions from the mlps amp experts. seems that that ´57 is even capable of bedroom playing ( i mean good sound at low volume settings), or am i mistaken?

Re: Fender 57 tweed deluxe
I've played through one...it's a great amp!
If I got rid of my tweed Bassman I might get something like that to replace it. ![]() BB

Re: Fender 57 tweed deluxe
The tones are alike, but a little different...different circuit of course.
When I got my Bassman it had a replacement OT...the chassis is currently down in Texas at Kendrick amps...Gerald Weber is a Fender Guru (Billy G. goes to him all the time), and I'm getting one of his hand-wound Bassman OTs as well as an overhaul. Gerald also make a great attenuator for the Bassman, cuts the dbs down to a respectable level with out sacrificing tone. ![]() BB

Re: Fender 57 tweed deluxe
hey man thanks for sharin the video with us.
and since you have a clone of that amp i guess you can answer the question ( cause of your experience). how loud is that amp? i hear the drums on your video plus you jammin´ away pretty balanced so i guess that thing can compete with a tame playin drummer......

Re: Fender 57 tweed deluxe
10-12 watts with a bright, efficient speaker (a Blue, for instance) can be pretty loud, but not necessarily very clean...I can only use mine for semi-acoustic gigs (w/ unmiked standup bass, acoustic piano, etc).

Re: Fender 57 tweed deluxe
There really isn't one. The closest thing I can think of is the Pro Junior, but even that amp is a better choice for a band situation. The tweed deluxe is a sweet sounding amp, but gets much too compressed and mushy at full volume. I tried to gig with one and it just wasn't able to cut through a mix. And yes, Neil Young uses one, and he mics it and amplifies it through a pretty complex solid-state set-up to get to appropriate stage volumes. I would think it would be fine for maybe a 3 piece blues band that played small bars, but it gets lost in a mix fast, IMO, of course.

Re: Fender 57 tweed deluxe
I've used my original '57 quite a bit---it doesn't have much headroom,but sounds good at around 4.

Re: Fender 57 tweed deluxe
I mentioned the attenuator Gerald Weber (Kendrick Amps) makes...I spoke to him Friday about it. It's called "The Decrescendo" and is a pretty simple box. It has 3 settings: true bypass, -6db, and -12db.
He said the -6db takes it down enough to take out the hiss when you crank it, but is still loud enough for a drummer...about 11 watts. In the -12db mode it goes down to around 3 watts, and is quiet enough to play in the house with it cranked. I should get it back late this week, or early the next--I'll be sure and record some clips with it! BB
