Hi anyone know if the transtube amps are pretty good? The all tube amps cost a arm and left nut .... Try to get close to the ac/dc sound without going bank rupt... Anyways i got a angus young pickup on the way going to try it with my Roland 40 cube to see if i like the sound .. May end up getting a mashall solidstate...Thinking bout a Peavey Rage 158 15-Watt Transtube Amp also looking at a MARSHALL MG15CDR AMP any info. Thanks and merry xmas to all . and to all Rock On!

Re: transtube amps???
Im not sure if we are on the same page here, but AFAIK, transtube is an emulation circuit found in solid state amps from Peavey. I have a Peavey Audition 110 with transtube technology. This circuit is one of many out there that emulates the sound of a tube amplifier. Marshall on their SS amps have the FDD circuit. What FDD is supposed to do is to not only try and shoot for that tube sound but also the response of a tube amp to a musician's playing dynamics as well. Don't ask me how accurate these circuits are to the real thing as i have no personal experience with tube amps. Opinions on how accurate vary from person to person and as with all opinions, take each and everyone (including my own) with a grain of salt. The best i can recommend to you is to try it out for yourself in a store and see if you like it and suits you.

Re: transtube amps???
my personal opinion about how good it is is this: it gives pretty reasonable crunch for what it is. But do not expect Marshall Plexi or Mesa type overdrive. You will need pedals and then some to get close to those sounds. I can tweak the pre and post gain to achieve different levels and kinds of distortion as well as with the amp's EQ.

Re: transtube amps???
I have a behringer vintage tube monster pedal - it sounds great, but I've only played it through tube amps. It is not quite as good as the onboard overdrive on my amps, but it helps.
I've been saying this a lot, but I paid less than $375 for both my Peavey Classic 30 and 50 - which is not prohibitively expensive, and is a much better amp than a similarly priced new SS amp. There just is no substitute IMO. |

Re: transtube amps???
my advice would be to save your money, sell the roland, combine those funds and get a decent tube amp. the angus young pickup is only part of the equation. you wont go wrong with a classic 30. steer clear of the marshall mg ss stuff. what kind of guitar are you playing?

Re: transtube amps???
To the original question, yes Transtube amps are indeed "pretty good". However, your Roland is also "pretty good". I don't think any of the amps you mentioned are an improvement on what you have now. I'd suggest play what you have, keep your ears open, try to play with others and learn your guitar. Play different amps that your friends have and whats available at the music stores, and learn more. Try to learn details about different amps and why they sound different from each other. Work hard and save some money. After some time, when you have some money together if you've identified an amp that YOU'VE PLAYED that sounds the way you want then maybe take the plunge. Once you've done that, don't be surprised if a year later you've found things about that amp you're not as sold on and want a different one. You'll also find out there are other aspects - the guitar, the cord, the pickup, etc. that you want to change. Finally, you find out the most important part is YOU and HOW WELL YOU PLAY, no matter what you play through. Go back to square one, rinse and repeat. Welcome to the fun!

Speakers are another factor and you will need to match your amp to an appropriate speaker cabinet. Or - and this might be your best bet - try out combo amps - speaker and amp in the same cabinet. Lots of great choices and they are easy to haul around - significant only if you are not a body builder. ![]() ![]() Good luck and welcome to the forum! Listen to all these folks as they are experienced and will offer great advice. And, just a suggestion - make things easier for those of us reading your posts and use a spell checker. Thanks.
