quick question

I have a quick question.

I have seen some amps discribed as "bass" amps. Is there a difference in a bass amp and a regular amp?
Will a regular amp work with a bass guitar?

Thank you, Bill

Re: quick question

From what I know about bass guitars and regular amplifiers, they could work but only at very very low volumes. If you crank up either the bass guitar, the amp or both, you potentially run the risk of blowing the amp's speaker to the next dimension.

Hmmm, that's not good.

My son has a 10 watt Jay Turser amp that he wants to give to a friend who is getting a new bass for Christmas. Sounds like it is not a good idea.

Re: quick question

here is the thing with amps and playing bass. I have a couple small practice/bedroom amps that i have plugged my basses into and they will not give you the sound you need. the speakers in guitar amps ecspecially smaller 15-30 watt ss amps dont seem to be ranged for say an open E. the bass with def. push that speaker to its limits and also at high volumes it distorts way out of pitch. but at very low volumes you can get the basic sound out of a smaller amp. just make sure the gain is almost all the way off and play with the knobs. it is possible just the quality will not be there and keep it quiet.

Re: quick question

Pretty sure some of the older fenders can handle bass.
