Champ 600 Modifications
What's the opinion of this amp and modifications. I have seen the Mercury Magnetics kit, but it is more expensive than the amp itself. Others have talked of replacing the speaker, output transformer, & tubes.
Curious what you guys & gals think could be done to improve the tone; I'm primarily interested in playing blues. |

Re: Champ 600 Modifications
I played one of these with the following simple "Mods"
Weber Signature Series Ceramic 6" $30 Reissue Tung Sol 6V6GT $19 Reissue Tung Sol 12AX7 $15 That's it and it was vastly improved for $65 and a 1/2 hours work. You could also go with JJ tubes at $14 & $9 respectively. I used to have a Victoria Tweed Champ years ago and I put used a Brimar 6V6for $55 and a GE 5751 for $20. My favorite combo for Champs. I suspect the 5751 would be a good fit for the Champion 600. I would try just that before getting into expensive mods that require some skill to do.

Re: Champ 600 Modifications
I think for $50.00 more you are better off getting the epi valve jr. head and cabinet. Not quite as portable, but it is a much fuller sound. Also, lots and lots and lots of mod options. Personally, after swapping out tubes and playing thru a boss eq. pedal, I am happy enough with it that I don't want to mod it. Either way, enjoy your amp!
