V2 built an 8-watt Corona for me and it's fantastic. It's quickly becoming my favorite Phaez, even over my JTM

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

Hey guys,

I've created a Facebook page for V2 Amplification, where I have started to share info on various things, including my Phaez badges and amp builds.

The page is https://www.facebook.com/V2Amplification.

The V2-cutter is now on sale for $550 on the Facebook site. Check it out. Thanks!

-- John

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

My first post...

I joined because I am interested in buying the V2-cutter if an effects loop can be added. (without ruining tone) I sent an email to v2amplification@gmail.com yesterday afternoon, but I don't know if it was received or not, as there has been no response.

Maybe someone else can help answer whether an effects loop can be easily added to the V2-cutter, or if I would be better off buying the DC8 from Randy that already comes with a loop. I am a complete novice regarding amp builds, but the "V2-cutter" seems to be an upgrade from a stock Daisycutter... Any opinions? I look forward to hearing from V2 to see if he would even be willing to add a loop...

Thanks in advance.

Hi SoCal.

I'll try contacting you by PM (here) later tonight or tomorrow. However your MLP messaging might not work until you have accumulated more posts. Feel free to shoot me an email again: v2amplification@gmail.com.

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

Thanks to ac/dcfan87 and caljoe for the votes of confidence. After spending the last few days reading hundreds of posts, and seeing nothing but positive things about(and from) him, I'd have to say I have no worries about dealing with V2.

Thanks again for your input!

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

Thanks guys.

SoCal needs a loop, and we're currently going over the options. For the time being, the original V2cutter is still available sans loop.

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

Hahaha. I'm very happy to have this amp around. Hopefully I'll get a chance to record some cleaner stuff tonight. Must... stop... turning... up... the... gain....

Maybe I need a gainaholics anonymous sponsor. Who can help me keep the gain knob below 9 o'clock? I will call between 2AM and 4AM for guidance.

Here is a sample of the V2cutter with a 6V6 in the power section and gain set at about 10:30 - 11 o'clock.

I should stop recording songs I've never played before....

I saw your amp on the local craig's today. I wish I could afford it. It's a beauty and sounds absolutely brilliant. Any chance at a trade?

Hi pedersenkirk - nice to meet another MLPer from the GVRD. Thanks for the kind words. Come on by sometime to play the Phaez amps (V2cutter, DC8, and the prototype Denogginizer).

I'll PM you later today about your query - I don't want to put 'sale' stuff into my Squawk Box threads

Cheers! John

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

The family went swimming this afternoon, so I ran downstairs to record this clip on the V2cutter. I thought the soundcloud recording sounded better than the Youtube one, so I included both. What do you think?

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

Performed final tone tweak after talking to TFT. The result - in my opinion - was incredible. I am a little sad that the amp is now all boxed up and ready to go out the door.

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

Here is a sneak peak at the next evolution of the V2cutter -
The chassis on top is it. I think this was the last 10-watt Daisycutter kit sold. After all is said and done, this amp will differ from the stock DC10 and from the first V2cutter.

The amp on the bottom is a prototype of the V2 Denogginizer.

Re: Phaez V2-cutter

Here is a photo of the main power-supply (PS) board and some other components. The PS board has fuses on the HT secondaries (both sides) as well as the 6.3V secondaries used for the heaters. In all, there are 17 parts on the PS board, 11 of which are not stock DC10 components.

The two filter caps are 500V snap-in caps. I chose these because radial caps are limited to 450V. I don't know of any other amp that mounts snap-in caps on an eyelet board. There are some design challenges, but it's worth it.

The output jacks are 'long' switchcraft jacks that are isolated from the chassis.

The epoxy board is 1/8" G10/FR4, yo. The hole in the middle is there for easy access to the bolt that secures the power transformer.

Tested and passed. Next.
