Practice amp help

Please help me decide on a little practice amp.

Little Lanilei 3350LT VS Orange Tiny Terror Combo

Pros and Cons Please. Thanks for your help. PJ

I want something small that I can move easily from room to room. I already have an old Fender Princeton that sounds great, the only problem is I have to turn it up loud to make it break up and give me the sound I want. I'm thinking the TT is the same size as my Princeton so I'm leaning towards the LL. I'm just not sure how long it will take to get the LL once I order it. I don't want a modeling amp, just want to hear the guitar amplified (clean and dirty). It would also be nice if I can use it in the studio as well. Maybe an Orange AD5 Combo?

Re: Practice amp help

what type of music do you play? If you play blues/classicrock/rock Id suggest the peavey classic 30 its got lots of gain and nice tone without a pedal but with a pedal it can sound like anything you want really

Re: Practice amp help

I like the Peavey JSX plus its a couple hundred less than the tiny terror although the tiny terry is a great amp too. But for the money I'd get the JSX!

Re: Practice amp help

This is a sort of "outside-the-box" suggestion but the Zvex Nano is pretty cool:

Zvex Nano - The World’s Smallest Tube Amplifier | The Gear Mall

Aside from that I would recommend the Epiphone Valve Junior 5 Watt Combo.

Re: Practice amp help

The Zvex looks interesting, not sure about the peaveys, surely not the 30Watt one. Still thanks for your suggestions so far.

OK, but I don't really need a 30 watt amp.

Re: Practice amp help

true but it will be good because 30 tub e watts is little enough for practice and you can gig with it later on which means not havin to buy another amp....

theres also peavey classic 20's

Re: Practice amp help

I know you want to buy another amp, but if you really like the sound of your Fender, maybe consider an attenuator. I am not sure how good a Tiny Terror will sound turned way down. It sounds great at volume, but I have never really messed with it at true bed room levels.

Re: Practice amp help

Zvex Nano is so cool, but for $ 500.00. Whateva. Maybe for $ 150.00. I actually looked to buy one for the novelty, but why would anyone pay $ 500.00 for it. You can get a real amp that sounds better for $ 500.00 + an amplug for use in the bedroom.

Re: Practice amp help

The Songworks Little Lanilei would be your most practical, best built, versatile, and portable option by a landslide!!! The limiting thing about this amp is the 6 1/2" speaker size, less bass response, but even so it has a surprising fullness to its sound. And you can dial in full distortion at conversation volumes, or softer!
You do know that it has 33watts, right? Whats great is that the tube section of this amp is only a 1/4 watt. This is the only truly effective tube amp that I've ever heard. The way its designed, its almost like the entire sound from this amp is the actual 1/4 watt tube section. the 1/4 watt tube section is then "amplified thru the 33watt solid state section. It cranks!! Better yet, there are ext. speaker out jacks on the back allowing you to run up to a full stack!!!!!!!!! I've wanted one of these for so long, maybe this coming year I'll be able to give it a go.

For a new Class A "all tube" amp, I can't recommend the Gibson GA-5 combo enough (if you can find one), Either the Epiphone Valve Jr. Half-stack or combo are great. The Orange AD5 with Celestion 10" speaker at $498 should be worth a look as well.
Keep in mind, while all these all tube amps that I just mentioned are only 5watts, they will still rip your face off to achieve high or full on distortion. I have the Gibson GA-5, and while only 5watts thru an 8" speaker, the sound is heavenly, but ear shattering for bedroom/late hours use!!!

Overall the Songworks gets my vote.

Have you thought of the Egnater Rebel 20 with variable wattage control? Its a small and portable package as well.

Re: Practice amp help

I'll second Needlespauls vote. The 3350 has fifty watts available though. I have one. It continues to impress me. Frankly, it sounds better than those Peavey clips or the Orange TT clips that I've heard. More versatile too. The cleans are sweet. Footswitchable. It's so easy to move around and you can use bigger cabs. The main thing for me is how good it sounds at low volume. I swapped the jj's that come with it for some nos and it's even better once I found the right combo. It's worth the wait.

I'll get some pics up someday. Been real busy lately. Mine is Black with the Oxblood grill. Like the 1/4 watt on the website. It sounds large through a 1x12, I've heard it's Huge through a 2x12 or 4x12. The sound of the little amp alone blows you away. You just can't believe it's that little box thumpin like that. I absolutely love the tone.

Have you played through one or have you just heard the clips on You Tube? When you get one PM me. I'll give you a pointer or two on Tubes for it. I've tried several different combos.

VOX AC15 for kinder & gentler valve sound, or Line6 Spider Jam when I want to play along with backing tracks.

Re: Practice amp help

Too bad. I bid on it and saw reserve was gone at just over $ 200. 5 minutes later I retracted thinking I already a Triamp, JCM, AVT, Soldano SLO on the way, and just bought an amplug. Stupid of me to think I would use this or need this, although it looks totally kick ass, especially for the money unlike the Nano. Someone buy it.

Good choice. By the way, the one on Ebay right now is 1/4 watt. Get the 3350 when you can get one. I traded my 1/4 watt for the 3350. And the old rounded cabs look cool but Tris went to square because they sound better. The old style embroidery is cool though.

I saw somewhere that somebody put an attenuator on the speaker so they could crank the amp and still keep the volume down.

Classic 30's sound great both at bedroom levels and at gig levels - I use mine for both. My full stack sits in my house collecting dust (well, the covers are collecting dust).

The C30 was the best $350 I've ever spent on an amp.

I don't really see the point in that. The tube section is cranked at 1/4 watt. Any volume above that has the power tube working.

So I saw the TT Combo at a local shop and it isn't as small as I thought it would be. Almost as big as my Princeton and I think it was heavier too.

I've only heard some clips so far, and I'm impressed. And you can't argue with the handmade in USA quality and price at that! I will also buy one of Tris' 2x10 Vox Bluedog clone cabs for it. I don't know if I want the HiLo Watt Plexi, or Tris said you can get the higher gained 33/50 put into the Plexi Cab, or just get the regular standard 33/50 like you got. The new Songworks 33/50 x3 Head is BEAUTIFUL!!!! It's basically (3) 33/50's in one head, with 3 seperate effects loops and line outs to run 3 different effect and speaker cab rigs!!!
