Help for rookie: amp-cabinet match-up (Bugera V55)
Well I'm not on top when it comes to amp-cabinet match-ups. I've always used certain amps with their matched cabinets. Now I use a solid state Fender 100H with its 4 speaker cab.
However i have the chance to get a Bugera vintage 55W head but i cannot find a cabinet for it (live in Hungary). So my question is: Can i use the 55W head with the 100W fender cab? (my bet would be that any cab can be used which is equal or higher than 55W) The head has a resistance switch for 4-8-16 ohms the cab runs at 4 ohms, so i just switch to 4 ohms on the head and im ok? Also how do these ohms work? What would happen if i played tru 8ohms and the cab would be only 4 ohms? Thank you!

On a tube amp, some say you run it lower/higer. This all comes down to the iron or just in in plain English the transformer. Basically, just match the ohms. If you can't, I always go to a higher resistance. Never a lower. For solid state it's true, going from 4 ohm to 8 ohm will mean half power cut. This doesn't equally mean half volume, but you should just read up on that subject. JUST MATCH THE OHMS. ![]() I've run a 4 ohm champ with a 16 ohm load for years and haven't destroyed anything. Also 2x the amp power is what you want in the cab. As in max. speaker RMS power.
