Re: Thinking about this old silvertone
I'd buy it. For $50.
Just because it's old doesn't mean that it's not a cheapo Sears amp. Unless you're looking to find out what it was like for a 14 year old to play a practice amp in 1972. http://www.silvertoneworld.net/ampli...1420/1420.html I do regret passing on one of these at a garage sale last year. $10. Oh, and I'm not a gear snob. My amps are a couple of low end Peaveys and a Blues Jr. Your $200 Craigslist $ is maybe better spent here: 5 Watt Shootout |

Re: Thinking about this old silvertone
The Danelectro made amps are the ones to get. The 1481 was the little 5 watter Champ killer. I really don't know too much about the early '70s amps. Don't get me wrong I would probably buy one if I found a deal on one as long as it was tube powered but I would pay a lot less for a post Dano era Silvertone. I've got a pair of 1482s that I absolutely love. I would keep looking for a 1481, 1482 or even a 1483 if you are lucky enough to find one. I found this 1482 on Craigslist for $195 last month.

Re: Thinking about this old silvertone
I have a 1481 myself I bought two or three years ago. Sadly, prices seem to have double for these on eBay recently...
If your amp is anything like a 1481, you won't regret it...

Re: Thinking about this old silvertone
I know the 1481 and 82 are amazing amps! They are sleepers for sure. I play and record a 1484 all the time and I'm always impressed with what comes out of it. Its a sweet tone machine. Dont plan on gigging with it because they are not rugged stock but recording jamming practicing hell yeah. Don't know this model but the 60's ones kick ass.

As Who pointed out the amp in the add is a 1420 which is a post Dano era amp. If you are looking for a Silvertone look for amps from '68 and earlier. The seller of the amp in that add either doesn't understand the difference or is hoping to rope a buyer who doesn't. $200 is way too much for that amp. |

Re: Thinking about this old silvertone
I have a 1471 that sounds awesome. It seriously needs a new speaker but the distortion it creates now is darn cool.
