Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

Had it for twen years. Loved its wonderful wet tone. I had to get it too loud for decent break up, but clean, it was a swonder. I know i could have added an attenuator, but I wanted a heavier sound so revently went with a Mesa. Funny though, I sold the Mesa pretty quickly , got a boutique Carr 8 watt amp with a built in attenuator that makes me smile. Getting a Marshall too, I think.
But that Fender is just a well made great sounding amp. Some folks poo poo the rieissues. I don't understand that since not all of us can find decent original. Besiseds, do we annt to recap an original just to gain some mythical sound? Just buy a Reissue I say. They sound wonderful!

Here's a pic of mine with some other junk thrown in:
Mine was from '97

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

I have an 06 they come with a bit better speaker than the 99s but only a bit better , love the amp, better tubes than stock and biased a bit hotter makes them sound better. I would think yours would have different tubes than stock, maybe not.
How do you like it?

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

I have a new set of tubes on order, and I'm going to change out the speaker. I have a Celestion G12H Heritage in the closet so I'll give it a try.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

I've got an '07 and I absolutely love it. I usually play it at 4-5 on the volume and wide open with the guitar controls. It's my favorite sounding breakup. I hear people talk about Fender cleans, but it never play it clean. :-) hehe

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

I can't wait till I get the tubes, I tried to do the speaker change out last night. The top stud won't let the speaker come off before it hits the transformer. I guess I'll let the amp shop do the change out. I really like the weight, it will sure be better than carrying my Blues Deluxe.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

I also just picked up a deluxe reverb this week. On the advice of a friend who also has one, I swapped out the speaker with a vin 30. I usually prefer vin 30's in a closed back cab, but it sounds GREAT in the deluxe reverb. I also use my TS-808 and that's it. That's all this amp needs. Great tone.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

Mine cut through like a champ! And that was with the volume between 4-5. I used the amp and my ts808 for 90% of our stuff. I do run lots of mid's in my tone, so that helps. Plug a LP up into it and hang on! ( and that's coming from a guy who also uses a jtm45!) Money very well spent, and your back will thank you as well!

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

You can improve the band level situation by pointing the amp right at your head. I've never had a problem with a DR getting lost in a band situation, though. I love blackface DR's - one of the best amps Fender ever made IMO. Of course, the tweed and brown Deluxes prior to the DR are no slouches either!

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

I had one for a while. Great amp, awesome clean, but like Harpo, I found that it just needed to be too loud to break up in a useable way. About that time, I was offered a great deal on a SuperSonic head and cabinet, so went with that, and sold the DRRI a few months later.

BTW, I think the SuperSonic is one of the coolest amps I've ever owned. But my '70s Marshall 1987 was my favourite by far. Still want to get another one...

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

Played one of the reissues today and I was impressed with it. Played an American Strat through it clean and with several OD pedals. Very nice! I think this will be my next amp. Should be a great gigging amp... Gibsonblues...

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

I have a '94 DRRI ...
Replaced some tubes, swapped the speaker to a TT and playing together with a 2x12 TT-cab it's exactly what I like tonewise ...

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

Wow!!! This thing rocks! The reverb is nice & warm until about 4 then it gets cheap & thin. That's ok,I only use a touch of reverb anyway. I loaded it with a nice 50's EV speaker I had and threw in some nice old preamp tubes.(I'll retube it later for real.) It's a little thicker sounding now but even stock it sounds great. I wished I bought one of these years ago. Well worth the $500 bucks I paid, that's for sure.I've read some mixed reviews on this one and I've come to the conclusion that either I got lucky and got a really nice one or these guys that gave it negative reviews are just high on the boutique amp punch.Probably a little of both!
I'll be taking it to rehearsal on Wednesday so I'm hoping it keeps up. I have a feeling that won't be a problem at all.

Hey Classic,I'm think of getting an extension cab too. How does it change the sound? Is there any less volume?Or is it just MORE of the goods? My drummer hits entirely too damn hard so I'm a little worried about cutting through.

Gravy,
I've made the experience that for really small gigs the DR will be enough - in small rooms even a drummer can't act without discipline ...
With the ex-cab the sound is beafier and there's no problem to cut through.
... and for the case that it won't suffice ... I'll take that 2nd ex-cab with Weber Blue Dogs in addition to the first one ... 5 speakers should control a drummer !!! NO loss in volume ... more acoustic pressure ...

Can anyone tell me how loud this is?

I want something loud enough that I cant play it at home at more than 3, or 4, and at the same time crank it in gigs

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb RI?

Of course it's a "pro" amp. I seriously doubt you'll be playing it at 3 or 4 at home, unless you have deaf neighbors.
22 watts is a lot louder than you might expect. My band is pretty darn loud and I never got mine over 4. Just a word of warning though:I did blow mine after only two rehearsals. Like everything else Fender makes ,some of it is GREAT but a lot of it is garbage too. Just be careful!

none around you where ya live is there?
IMO you should really try one out first. they are great little amps and you can play anything out as long as you are running stuff through a P.A. system.
The one in the classifieds I think I saw that better speaker and tubes I will look again. IMo the rebiasing that was done should be a good thing the EH preamp tubes well I wouldn't use them for the first 2 preamp tubes. A bit too gainy for my taste. The speaker again something that may or may not be a better thing depends on the ear of the user. It is a good make of speaker, IMO so is the stock Jensen.

I had a 60s one and at home it was too loud but in a gig situation it was too quiet! The missing link is the Super reverb..

When I was playing live the volume was 7 and that was not loud enough with a heavy drummer and past 5 it was breaking up too much
