Low budget punk rock gear !
Hope this is the right place : i did not know where else this question would fit in!
If you had to use a "budget" rig (read : guitar, fx & amp) for your style of sleazy swampy garage / punk rock, what would you use ? PS : you do not need to own said gear. This is kinda like a "low budget fantacy-gear" question ! GO !

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
Epiphone '56 Goldtop Les Paul
Used Peavey Classic 30 MXR M77 Badass Custom Modified OD If budget was no concern, I'd swap the Amp for a Fender Bassman with Master Volume and gain mods, upgrade to 50's wiring and swap the stock pups in the GT for SD SP90-2 hot pups.

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
Ooooo;
-CVC tele with p-90 neck -Tonebender clone and/ or muff -and silvertone 1471 Ha oh well this is already what I use... I do wish the amp had reverb though. Ok fantasy garage rig that I do not have: -melody maker, single coil or p-90 with repaired neck and horrible custom finish by some kid in his garage. Bigsbyfied. Needs a star wars sticker of some sort. -Germanium treble boost, homemade preferably -reverb unit -Fender musicmaster bass amp with 2x10s

I would have just said an Epi standard LP and classic 30 the C30 will give you plenty gain, imo. but I guess any nice boost OD could always be welcome... something like a TS7/TS9 or maybe an OCD for a 2nd guitar I'd say a P90 equipped LP - seems to fit the bill for Social D's Mike Ness...

![]() I agree on the P90 equipped guitar hence the '56 GT. I prefer the snarl of P90's over humbuckers but that's personal preference. Like you said. . .it works for Mike Ness!

Telecaster Squier danelectro compressor pedal any shitty amp I can get my mitts on - just stab the speaker a few times with pencils. I used to use ]H[ Amps with numerous unusable speakers! What I actually use is anything lying around the house, it was an pink Aria strat for the longest time.

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
yep, the early SD stuff he used a standard though...
Brett from Bad religion also uses a standard, steve jones had a custom (stolen )East bay ray (DK) and a few others used Teles though... and Johnny Thunders used a LP TV or a special IIRC (P-90s)

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
I've recorded with this rig in the past, and would gig with it if I could mic it.
Douglas Tele copy GFS Sweet Sparkle Compressor Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive Danelectro Fab Echo Gretsch Electromatic G5222 If I needed a bigger amp, I'd swap in my Ampeg J-20 Jet. The rig was put together for a specific song, and designed to be A) cheap and B) totally scuzzy sounding. I think I succeeded. Check out the song "Punk Rock Summer" on my Soundcloud page.

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
I've in punk bands since the late 80's. When I started playing in bands I got the loudest amp I could afford, which wasn't much. So I got a used Peavy Renown 212. A ProCp Rat for distortion. And my girlfriend at the time bought me a used Gibson SG.

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
I gotta say, when I see the words "sleazy, swampy, garage punk," a Les Paul and a Peavey Tube amp are not what instantly spring to mind. I'm picturing the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion more than Social Distortion.

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
I would do one of these two guitars
Epiphone Limited Edition Wildkat Royale Electric Guitar | Musician's Friend Squier Tele Custom II Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups | Musician's Friend and one of these two amps and you would do well. Vox Valvetronix VT50 50W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp | Musician's Friend Fender Mustang III 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp | Musician's Friend So.. $550 to $700 and your there. You want to go really budget... You can get these two. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guita...lectric-guitar http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ampli...itar-combo-amp Now your around $350

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
I s'pose the new 13watt Fender Excelsior will also make a great low budget sleazy punk rock amp.
Used *Fender Cabronita Tele -->used Voodloo Lab SuperFuzz -->Fender Excelsior * Fender Cabronita Telecaster Electric Guitar White Blonde | Musician's Friend - used, maybe $500.00 ? |

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
Mine's easy. And it's in the house.
Agile AL-2000 (B Stock). With case, it was about $140. 1971 Carvin SS amp (275W, with a big old 2x15 -- Altec 418-8A's -- plus tweeter in a ported, closed-back cabinet). Very loud, a bit too clean, lots of bottom end. Well under $200 when I found it. Pod XT Bean, used. About $80. FBV Express footpedal, also used. About $40-50. |

Re: Low budget punk rock gear !
we have a stingray, that'd probably do that for you, but the drive chanel in ours is gubbed so i only get clean, but it's quite a nice clean for a ss amp.
