NAD: Soldano Hot Rod 50 - I Think I've Found My Tone!

Well, the postman woke me up out of a hangover this morning with a snakeskin-covered suprise:

HUGE thanks to DrakeZero for holding this for me while I moved gear to pay for it. Also for answering my 1000's of questions and being super helpful at every step.

Pics really can't do the covering justice...this is the best shot I could get to show the texture with my shitty camera:
This thing is so deadly mint I need to get a padded cover for it ASAP!

I've never had an amp that goes louder than 10 before....

"What we do is if we need that extra..push..over the cliff, Y'know what we do? ..."

Here with currently my one-and-only LP and my 1960B (the 1960A stays at the jam space)

Soundwise, it's everything I expected and hoped and then some. With the KT66's that DrakeZero so graciously put in and biased for me it's the tone I've been searching for. I plan to put some new preamp tubes in it soon as it still has the factory Sovteks from '00.

I've gone through a VOX AC100CPH, a heavily modded Blackface '66 Bassman, a Marshall VM 2466, and most recently a Mesa Triple Recto all in the span of 2 1/2 years trying to find the amp that resonates best with me. For the genres I play and the playing and picking style I use, this is the best I've ever tried. Period.

Also, the build quality is extremely good. A really well designed, well assembled machine. I can't say enough about that. I feel like I'm plugging into a nuclear warhead.

Anyways, enough talk. I'm going to go play guitar now.

Hell yes.

Going to try some JJ's or Gold Lions in the future but for now the Shuguang's will do fine.

First step is try out some Svetlana 12AX7's.

I got a nice matched pair of Gold Lions from The Tube Store. Excellent tubes.
They are in Canada.

The snake skin alone makes you look twice at it. That's one of the reasons why I bought it in the first place. Also the amp sounds nice lol

I did try it with Gold Lions once, but it was a quick swap and I didn't check the bias on it. They were smoother in sound. Not as gainy as the Value Art tubes.

I need to get a padded cover, I'm thinking D2F. Any other suggestions? D2F seems to be the best bang for the buck.

Well, Just went ahead and bought a D2F cover.

I figure, with a 30-day return with free return shipping I can't go wrong to give it a try.

Thanks man. I also prefer them stock. The only thing I'll ever change are the tubes.

Nice, that is totally sweet. HNAD!

Isn't it great to get something that when you play it, it just tells you it's perfect.

It even goes to 11 , you gotta put some clips out here for us.

Thanks buddy. I love that feeling...I felt that with this amp and also my LP studio and Barbershop OD. Not a lot of other gear has given me that.

I'd love to post clips but I literally have no way of recording I'm a total noob when it comes to that. I've got a good mic (SM57) but no interface or the knowledge of how to use one.

I tried a cheap M-audio and got so frustrated trying to make it work that I just returned it.

Re: NAD: Soldano Hot Rod 50 - I Think I've Found My Tone!

Just occurred to me that my band has started video recording all our practices in HD.

Haven't used this to jam yet, but I'm supposed to be playing tonight with the guys so we'll see what I can do.

We've also got a studio setup at the practice space with a mac and a focusrite among a rackful of other stuff. Should be able to make even a basic recording.
