NAD: 60's sound for $40 bucks! Vintage Harmony Amp
I wanted to post my latest amp in case others know anything about it. I have not seen any info online about Harmony Bass amps and thought I'd share this.
I picked this up for $40 bucks from an older guy I know for $40 bucks after I heard and played a strat through it. It's a Harmony Bass Amp Model H 1815. It has an original 15" speaker and he was the original owner of this relic. It's a solid state amp and I do not know how old it is, but he told me it is from the 60's. As far as wattage goes, I'm thinking it puts out 40 or 50 watts or so as it begins to distort at half volume....which I actually like. I played a Squier bass and my LP through it and it sounds vintage in clean and interesting with some distortion and overdrive. The amp has jacks bor both bass and guitar and probably a keyboard Cleaning this thing up took a few hours and it ends up looking pretty good besides for a few bruises and chips. I had a friend look it over and clean up the jacks and the inside of the head looked good. I am going to grab the missing knob if the guy can find it, this is my first 'vintage' purchase and I like noodling around with this thing but I am wondering if anyone has any additional info about it. I looked up the history of the brand and saw it was sold at Sears and was never meant for life on the road. Sorry for the somewhat large cell phone pics, I can post better pics later. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: NAD: 60's sound for $40 bucks! Vintage Harmony Amp
Wow, I guess I have something unusual here since nobody responded lol. I did see a similar amp to this on the bay the seller said was from the 70's. It was a combo, the same color but with a 10'. The seller added a new speaker and back to the amp as well as some other things and was asking $150.00
Vintage Harmony H1618 Amp | eBay I played through it last night with the LP and some effects and it sounded good to me. I used a crybaby and a Boss SD-1. I guess it's a keeper. |

I wasnt going to put it on CL, but I saw a Marshall half stack at the local shop that is priced to move and would be way better sounding than this. If it doesn't sell, I'll keep it, it's impressive for its age and 40 bucks lol.

Re: NAD: 60's sound for $40 bucks! Vintage Harmony Amp
I'm thinking of keeping it if it doesn't move. I still cannot find any info on this thing but did see a similar combo amp with 2 10's on the bay for $250 and it had a replacement speaker and the back of the amp was replaced with plywood.
I found a site of vintage Harmony amps and emailed them about info and pics and never heard back from them. The LP sounds good through the amp with both overdrive and distortion pedals. I ran an MXR compressor through it and it sounded mediocre. I'm teaching my GF how to play though and this thing is an extra amp, just a bit loud lol. |
