I never really did get THAT much enjoyment out of mine I sounded like crap every time no matter what the settings were- but my God- Clean was horrifying, I almost quit playing altogether again..LOL The Marshall is 10X better. Yes, I know, its still not as good as a tube amp- but that comes later... When I can get the missus to quit remodelling every room she sees...

But for a basis of a good, loud, clean sound. It's alright.

I'd trade it for a Class 5 though.
I want a class 5 also

Like, how are you going to have one of the best/most expensive guitars,........and then a Line 6 Spider??

Kind of amusing.
My sig was like that before today lol. I've got 2 great guitars and was playing them through a spider. Doesn't do the guitars justice at all...I'm tube all the way now! Been looking at effects pedals but don't know which are the best

Re: Went shopping today....

Happy (close to) New Amp Day, I went from a MG15 to a HT-5 head & 1 x 10 with a Tayden True Brit recently, and couldn't believe the difference

I spent a lot of time and money modding and tweaking my gits, then wondered why they didn't sound much different. The 8" cheap as chips speaker may have been something to do with that!

Re: Went shopping today....

It says in the manual that it applies to the emulated output for recording or headphones only. I spent a while wondering why I couldn't hear a big difference, and don't notice much though the headphones either TBH. I always use the 4x12 setting though!

"The HT-5 also has a fully specified speaker emulated output which further enhances
the studio credentials and allows any guitarist to get amazing valve tone straight to
tape or disk, or through headphones. It also features the unique 4x12/1x12 voicing
switch allowing you to change the tonal characteristics of the emulated signal
between two emulated cabinet types."

Seeing that there are at least 850+/- pedals available, it can be a bit overwhelming.

Probably start with a wah-wah. A original Dunlop Crybaby Wah are relitively cheap and loads of fun. A good delay should be looked into. Possible a tube screamer of some sort. All depends on what style your aiming at, from where to go from there.

HNAD!

I was looking into getting the new HT-5R with the 12" speaker as well, but ending up going with a Blackheart HD, which has a really nice warm base tube tone to it. I liked the cleans a lot better on the HD than the HT and I have the switchable wattage from 7 to 15. The HT has a lot better gain and you have some digital reverb to boot, which is nice.

I am using the Boss ME 70 with my rig for Boost/Comp/Gain/Effects/Wah, which is working out nicely now that I am starting to get use to it.

Re: Went shopping today....

On Blackstar's website it says:

12inch Blackbird 50w Speaker
Custom designed speaker

The HT-5C and HT-5R both feature a Blackstar custom voiced 12inch Blackbird 50 speaker.

So does this mean that the 5w tube is equivalent to a 50w solid state amp? :S

Re: Went shopping today....

Happy NAD. It is a wonderful amp. My first valve as well. Enjoy.

The nice thing about Blackstar is that they are usually NOT on the
list of items you can't use the coupon for.

After doing some investigation on Blackstar and decided to get the Ht-5R, I found that most retailers don't have Blackstar listed as non-compliant
with the coupon programs. Nice. I got 15% off mine which made
it a sweet deal.

Congrats on the new amp! I have the older HT-5C with the Celestion G10-40 (40W).

The speaker's wattage is just the max/peak wattage the speaker can handle. With only 5w (RSM), even peak wattage shouldn't ever get close to damaging the speaker.

5w Valve is roughly equivalent to a 15w SS.

Re: Went shopping today....

I need advice on speakers, I know I can run this amp as a head cab but have no idea what I'm looking for in terms of a good speaker cab and how powerful I can go without blowing the ht5!

EDIT: Or can I use a head cab with this also?

Hmmmmmmmmmm
