Re: Fender Excelsior amp

This one seems somewhat tamer than the other one.

If you like Fender Amps, this amp sounds pretty decent. . .

Re: Fender Excelsior amp

I think it sounds fine.

Looking at the schematic posted in the other thread:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B94M...E0X3lYdlk/edit

it looks like a modern take on a 5E3 style circuit, cut down to one channel with the extra triode used to run a tremolo. It's interesting that they've gone for a fixed up cathodyne PI for this amp instead of the parahase PI they put in the early Tremoluxe (5E9 from memory?). The paraphase would sound looser and messier (), but I understand it would take the trem better.

All in all, it looks like a really simple circuit that would have minimal insertion loss. Sheet, it doesn't even have a normal tone circuit! That makes me think this amp could be modded to sound like just about anything you want, short of a high gain monster.

Re: Fender Excelsior amp

Fender copied this design or they must have acquired some production rights for the excelsior, because it almost exactly looks like a vintage Excelsior amp from Holland/Netherlands.

Same build up and even the 2 seperate chassis and guess what, a 15 incher.

Can't find a picture, but those amps are made in my country and I've seen people gig with em. That's why that amp had such a familiar look to it.

EDIT:

Those amps even had an accordian input, primarly because Excelsior also made accordians Lol, so that explains why that input is on the Fender.

That's interesting. I'd love to see a pic of one of the old ones.

Problem is that our guitar scene isn't that big over here, so those amps are few and rare. Imagine how hard it is to find a accordion amp lol. Can't seem to find a picture of it.

Guess what happens when you search for excelsior tube amp?
The Fender keeps on popping up.

Excelsior is still a brand seen in new Accordion production. Dunno if this is the same brand, because they are based in Italy.
