adding reverb to an old amp

I have an old Electar Tube 10 amp I picked up at a local pawn shop for $100. It's a nice little amp but I find it lacking in features. I want to add a reverb unit to it.

There are a couple of sites that sell kits reverb pedals and I thought I could add one inside the box with just the mix knob showing up on the faceplate. It has room for just one more knob. I'd use a pot/switch (the same sort for splitting a humbucker) for the control.

Has anyone attemped to do this before? I know there will be the ones who say I shouldn't mod the amp - it's 'vintage' etc - but to me it is a 13 year old amp that didn't make greatness and deserves to be improved.

I have found and printed out some mods for this amp and wanted some feed-back before I got started.

Thanks for reading.

Dan

Re: adding reverb to an old amp

Most of the mods out there effectively just stick a reverb pedal into the amp itself. I just don't get that appeal. It's the same as using a pedal, except you've hacked open the amp, and jammed it inside the chassis. Too much time and money, too little reward. Just IMO and all, but I don't see the allure.

I say, go for it. It will be fun. As you say, it's not a museum piece. If you're up to it, you can add tube reverb with a tank.

Naw, do it right... get a spring tank and build a driver unit for it, something tube driven for more open sound and better overall effect!

Now if that's the direction you want to go, I can understand it a bit more. I just don't see any reason to stick a pedal in your amp, but if you want to add tube reverb, then you need a power source, and you're amp's already got that, so it does make more sense. A heck ton more complicated though.

Re: adding reverb to an old amp

get a fender reverb standalone unit

or just get the boss fender reverb pedal (not the deluxe reverb!)
