can't decide on which size peavey classic
i play mostly at my house and might use it at a small/medium sized club with a loud drummer. i'm looking at 20s, 30s and 50s.
or would you recommend something else for less than $500?

Re: can't decide on which size peavey classic
ive never gigged with mine, but i love my Classic 30. Diceman said he's gigged with his a lot, and iirc, he's never had to turn it passed like 4, which i can believe, because with mine on 3, it starts rattling my whole house

I've got a 30 and love it. That would be my vote.

Re: can't decide on which size peavey classic
Go with the 20 or 30. I used to have the 50 in 4X10 form back in high school and the only time I could ever crank that amp was when the parents were out of town so I could deal with all the fallout from the neighbors calling the cops without them home, haha. I loved that amp though.

I think 20w would work, but 30 would probably be your best bet.

Re: can't decide on which size peavey classic
I have a 30 and gig with it just about every weekend, without mic'ing it. I added an Egnator 1x12 ext cab. I put a Vintage 30 in the cab and put the Egnator Elite 80 in the chassis.
For live gigs I play strictly on the clean channel around 4-5 and control the levels with the guitar. It breaks up real nice around that area. At home I play at low volume (and no cab) and use the OD channel for a similar sound. It always has more than enough kick for live gigs and sounds great at home too. |

Re: can't decide on which size peavey classic
One more vote for the 30. The 50's won't be that much louder from a power standpoint but they have more speakers so that adds to the volume and size - both of which sound unnecessary for your needs. I love the 50's, but they just sound like more than you need.
The 30 will get you exactly where you need to go without anything extra getting in your way. Great amps. Good luck.

Re: can't decide on which size peavey classic
I think you'll be fine with the 30. If there will be situations where you need more head, force, drive you can plug in a 2x12 box (e.g.) and you'll got MORE
.

Re: can't decide on which size peavey classic
The Classic 20 isn't loud enough on its own for using with a loud drummer. But if you connect it to a 2x12 or 4x12, it'll work dandy if you don't need gobs of headroom. I have a C20 chassis that's mounted in a Mojo 2x12 combo shell, and it keeps up with my drummer fine.

Re: can't decide on which size peavey classic
Ive already decided to get a 4x10 C50. As rasily as these overdrive, i need all the headroom i can get for good clean tones. If i cant crank it enough to light up the EL84's lll just use my bad monkey.
I found a black 2006 that has been retubed with mesa EL84's and JJ 12AX7's. Im picking it up as soon as i get paid for my vypyr.
