NAD - Blackheart BH15H (head)
I play at home for myself. I wanted to try out some of the low-watt tube amps that get decent reviews.
I spent a couple of hours at Guitar Center (alone in the little side-room, thankfully). Spent most of the time with the VOX L'il Night Train. I also checked out the Jet City Picovalve, a Blackstar combo, and a few Fenders. I was all set to get the VOX.... Just for the heck of it, I tried out the (used) Blackheart. It's been sitting in the store for a couple of months at $249. For my ears, it was clearly superior to everything other than the Fender Blues Jr (which costs more than twice as much). This won't be the last amp I ever own, but I like it a lot. Right now, I'm just feeding the single 12" in my Bugera V22 amp (which I am selling). After that, I'll be using this head to feed the 12" speaker in my old Peavey Bandit 112. Not the ideal setup, but I like to tinker. Pics: ![]()

Re: NAD - Blackheart BH15H (head)
Congrats!
I like my HD as well, I did the side by side test with quite a few amps and came to the conclusion that I liked the Blackhearts base tone a lot more that the others. What speaker cabinet were you playing it through at Guitar Center? I got rid of my Bugera V22 over a year ago and picked up my Mustang III on trade in. The Bugera just did not do anything for me, except had beautiful cleans.

Re: NAD - Blackheart BH15H (head)
An Egnater cabinet. Used the same cab for each head. I realize the speaker and build of the cab can have a lot to do with the sound, but I went with what was nearby.
I also played a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for a little bit. I didn't like it at all. Of course, my yardstick was how I liked it at home-volume. I love some Fender tone, but I'll never play loud enough to get that sound I like. When one comes up on Craigslist, I'm going to grab a Peavey Classic 30, to add to my mix. It will probably replace this Blackheart. |

Bismilah YES, gonna let it go. ------------------------------------- Looks like the Blackheart is going back to Guitar Center. It's good, but it's not as good as what finally came my way today..... I played a Peavey Classic 30 at GC a few months back. $400 - beat-to-heck condition. LOVED IT, but not for that price, in that condidtion. Put an wanted-ad on Craigslist, and waited. And waited. Finally got a hit. $300. Decent condition. Original speaker replaced with a Tone Tubby ceramic (green). After listening, I'd call this a speaker 'upgrade' (but not a huge difference)(I have no way to side-by-side test). Downside..... no Peavey-emblem. It does have tube-rattle. I'll have to play it a while to decide if I care enough to do anything about it. Bugera v22 has also been sold on Craigslist. It will never be needed with the Peavey in town! ![]() ![]() ![]() Peavey family portrait

Re: NAD - Blackheart BH15H (head)
nauc... you threw me a curveball with that one post of yours!
I do appreciate your other thread posts. They helped me decide on this amp. My biggest concern was "can it be played low-volume at home". The answer is "yes", but it does prefer some volume! |
