Electrical Interference

i'm getting a horrible humming/electrical sound. I've tried a noise suppressor pedal which doesn't do anything since the sound just comes back when you play. It's worse at night which you'd think has something to do with the lights being on. I've tried turning off any lights on dimmers and it doesn't make a difference. Any other suggestions?

Re: Electrical Interference

Is your cellphone near the guitar at all? I know if mine is sitting on my lap or in my right pocket, it interferes with the pickups.

Also, try another outlet, just to rule out the one you're using having something amiss in it.

There are so many things that can cause electrical interference in guitars and amps, and it's a headache to diagnose. I've been there.

No cell phone. I've tried different outlets. Any other suggestions.

Re: Electrical Interference

Hmm, dinners are the other big one, but you took care of that.

Is it coming from the amp or guitar, and did it just start out of nowhere?

Re: Electrical Interference

Yeah, take it back to the store and get your money back. No need to troubleshoot that.

Re: Electrical Interference

You've had three or four threads about this with plenty of good suggestions about troubleshooting the problem. If you need more advice it would be more appropriate to simply add to your other thread (the latest one before this). If you follow the advice that has been given you'll be able to at least start ruling things out (tubes, speaker etc). If you don't like the advice you've been given then I suggest you either return the amp or look elsewhere.

Re: Electrical Interference

I've changed amps so I don't think it is the amp. I'll try doing it at a different house but why would it be worse at night? It's got to be something with lights right?
