Daisycutter 8
How many folks have a Daisycutter 8, or have had the chance to play though one?
A really nice amp is the only thing missing from my equation right now, and i figure if im going to do it, i might as well do it right =) edit... also, i know a ton of you guys here at MLP have phaez amps. i was looking at the phaez website and see you can buy straight from the website. is there a lead time on the amps or are they pretty speedy about getting them out to you? |

Re: Daisycutter 8
I don't have a Daisycutter, but I do have an Asheville.
It's the best amp buying decision I ever made! You've seen what boutique guitar look like, imagine a boutique amp! Top quality build and sound, my Phaez is amazing! And the price can't be beat.

Re: Daisycutter 8
Dc8 has a 6l6? I have a 5w 6v6, and I've been pretty enamored with it, though I do have it for sale in the classifieds section.
Randy's lead time ebs and flows. At best it's about three Weeks. At worst (mostly heavily customized stuff) it can take a whole lot longer. He seems to be pretty darned busy right now, so it could take a.while. Or, you could find an used one, hint hint.

Re: Daisycutter 8
You should buy Onioner's DC in the classifieds...
As said above, Phaez is a one man show. I've had my current order in for about 6 weeks and expect it to be ready in the next week or so. If you're interested, email Randy. Be patient - he will get back to you eventually. Chris.

Re: Daisycutter 8
If you never owned a "topshelf" amp, what's the hurry? Send Randy an email and tell him exactly what kind of guitar sound you're looking for. Reference specific songs by specific guitar players. If you already have a favorite speaker cab, tell him. If you love certain effects, let him know. If you need an effects loop, by all means tell him. In other words, be as specific as you can. Randy has all kinds of tweaks he can do for you if you're descriptive on what you want. His web site is not current because he's working on custom order amps.

Re: Daisycutter 8
What do (did) you have and what do you like to play?
As mentioned, Randy can be really helpful, but he is a busy man, and getting back to emails aint his strong suit. If we can help you narrow down what you want, then may as well. Though all that said, the Daisycutter (in any iteration) is an awesome amp. If it seems to fit the bill for what you want, I say go for it (and not just 'cause I have one for sale...).

Re: Daisycutter 8
I just put in an order for a Jericho, no special tweaks other than a half power switch. He said it should be done in 3-4 weeks. He was very helpful when I told him what I was lookig for. You owe it to yourself

Right now I have a vox ac4tv, about as budget as you can get lol, so any phaez is going to be a tremendous step up. I'm using a peavey 4x12 cab, which I will use with the phaez if I get it. As far as what I like? Awesome sounding gain!!!! From the clips I have heard, the daisycutter delivers STRONG in that department. I do use effects quite a bit, but with this amp, it need not be built for them as I want this amp for what it can do, not the FX. As long as I have at least SOME clean tones to use my FX, I'm good, the reason I want the amp though? Good.... No, EXCELLENT sounding gain

Re: Daisycutter 8
Yup. Daisycutter or JTM (Jericho/Jackal). Gotta narrow down size, and FX loops or not. I'd wager dollars to donuts you'd be happy with any version of either.

Re: Daisycutter 8
I was thinking of selling my 14w Daisycutter woody for another build but I just can't do it. Everytime I get up the nerve, and then plug it in for one last go, I completely forget about selling it. Which is why I know I'll end up owning 3 Phaez Amps soon. And if I ever did sell the DC, I would most likely end up buying another one, with maybe a few options added

You might also consider the Ashville for more distortion.

I have both a DC and a JTM. If you're looking for gain first and foremost....get a DC. My JTM does have higher gain capabilities, but it's still a medium to low gain amp. Which is why I added it to the stable.

Re: Daisycutter 8

Re: Daisycutter 8
Actually my SIBLY is the only Phaez I've owned or played. When I was first thinking of getting a Phaez, I had my eyes on the DC. I emailed Randy and he said that the SIBLY basically replaced the DC, or was an "improved" DC. More versatile as it cleaned up better. I guess the DC is more of a modern high gain sound where the SIBLY can get more vintage sounding. There may be some other differences, I dunno. The SIBLY and the JTM are supposed to be pretty similar with the SIBLY having a little simpler control layout, not sure. I guess the JTM cleans up real sweet too, maybe even better than the SIBLY. This is my limited knowledge of these amps, if any of this is incorrect, someone will correct it.
I'm kinda the exception with owning more than one Phaez. I've found what may be my last amp with the SIBLY.

I consider the 14w DC Randy's original masterpiece. No customer requested mods. It's a keeper. It's so simple and pure, but it's amazing how versatile it is with pedals. My next one will come from my twisted mind. ![]() This many people can't be wrong. It's no fad, there's no magic. It's just quality that performs. Very simple. 'bling, you hand wire your own pedals, right? I think you'd be able to appreciate this.
