Peavey amp players: What ya got?
I now have 4 Peavey amps, all older SS amps-3 guitar amps and a Basic 30 that I use as a bass amp.
I have the Basic 30 from the '80's for near 25 years. I have an '85 Studio Pro 40, my favorite all around amp, for about 4 years. I have an '80's Bandit 75 watt, my other favorite amp and a Renown 212, a 200 watt twin. I love them all, really, and find they are great tone nachines. What ya got, Peavey guys? (Peavey persons - sorry.) mark

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
My backup/practice amp is a silver-stripe Bandit. Cheap, rock-solid and a great pedal platform.
My first amp was an old-dog Backstage 30, followed by a shiny new Bandit 65.

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
A ValveKing 212 is my current amp. I've had it for three years and I really like it.
![]() The first amp I ever gigged was a Backstage Plus, like this one. A decent SS amp, good cleans, workable dirt, loud and portable: I had a Stereo Chorus 400, too. Great for clean funk, R&B, or jazz. I got it for $50 in 1999, gave it away in 2001. ![]() And I had a TKO 115 bass amp like this one which I gigged in a blues band a couple of years ago: ![]() I like a lot of their stuff. It's not the best I've heard, but it's great value for the dough and it's very reliable. |

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
I have a studio 50w combo which I bought new 25 years ago and the only thing worng with it is a scratchy reverb control pot. I also have a Peavey Royal 8 but it's in storage as it just wasn't cup of tea. The classic 50 is a great little amp which can do good clean and overdriven sounds.

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
I used to have a good ol' Classic 30 as my first tube amp.
I wouldn't mind finding a used Peavey Ultra though - that thing's a mean sounding amp.

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
I have a Classic 30 and a Deuce VT. That Deuce is a friggin' monster. I pulled two of the tubes out just to tame it a bit. It's definitely not designed to be played quiet. The tone circuitry doesn't really open up until she's breathing a little fire. Mine has the 17 lb. Black Widows...that's 34 lbs of speaker alone!
The overdrive circuitry is not good. It's just an ugly distortion with no redeeming qualities, but it takes my Hardwire Valve Overdrive quite well. The Classic 30 is good all-around amp. I pair it with my Jet City 1x12 cabinet and the two sound great together. ![]()

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
Can I play? I don't own a Peavey or gig, but back in the mid 70's I did gig one of these. I forget the model number but it was 400 SS watts and look very much like the picture below.
Horrible sounding amp! with a massively heavy 2x15 speaker cab. But it could fill an auditorium with noise!!

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
I had a VTM120, still to this day I don't remember why I got rid of it. I had a Pacer 100, didn't care for it much. The only Peavey amp I currently own is Vypyr 15, which is an awesome practice amp for the price.

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
I bought one of these 120 watt Specials in 1980,blew the speaker in the 1st 30 minutes.
Replaced it with a Black Widow. Hasn't been played in years. I need to do something about that....

I've posted this somewhere before, but here's my current crew:
![]() Basic 112 bass amp, Classic 20, Classic 112e extension paired with the C20, Classic 50 212, and Classic 30. I have another Classic 20 that's currently with my dad (gave it to him hoping he'd get back into playing...didn't work). |

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
My Bandit 65 is a rock crusher... Original owner from the 80's. We used to mic it through the PA since it just didnt have enough on its own. Still have it and all other amps get compared to it.

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
Currently have three Classic 20's, but one of them donated it's chassis a few years ago to be transplanted into a 2x12 combo shell...

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
I was using a Peavey 212 Deuce at home.
But had needed to bring the noise down a little bit so I went my Fender Blues junior. Which has been getting a better overdrive sound. |

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
Yea, when you can open it up a bit, it sounds great! I pulled two tubes out of mine and I just use the effects channel. I set the pre-gain between 9 and noon and adjust the post-gain from there. If I set the post-gain around noon, watch out! I kick in my Valve Overdrive, switch to my Pearly Gates in the bridge position, roll the tone back to about 3-4 and let er' rip. I'll bet this thing, with all 4 tubes in it and sitting on a 4x12 would wipe the floor with pretty much any 100 watt head and 4x12. It's almost scary loud.

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
The Diceman got me into the Classic 30. I've been playing with a lot less gain nowadays.

Re: Peavey amp players: What ya got?
I have a Backstage 30 from 1976 and a T15 from 1982.
(I also have a Darth Vador helmet which contributes nothing to this topic). ![]() I had a Backstage back in 1978 when I was 15 or so. I saw this Backstage on craigslist for $50 (about one year ago) and I had to snag it. It operates perfectly. Takes me back. Fun/goofy little rig. Nice little clean amp. Ice pick cleans. I also have a new MAX 20 bass amp for recording bass tracks at home. Nice little new amp. |
