Re: Landry Amp...Pre-production Pics!!!
I am looking forward to hearing the Landry amp this coming week myself.
![]() BB introduced me to Bill Landry about 3 months ago and I have been patiently waiting to hear this bad boy amp in person after I heard so many great things about the proto amp. We will be doing some vid & sound clips.

Re: Landry Amp...Pre-production Pics!!!
Hey Will...
You're going to dig this amp. I got to play the one you're getting--it's going out today--and it was rippin' it up. One thing that was astounding; Jeff (Kickstand) was playing my R7 (6707 VTPHs), and it was just singing on the OD channel with the extra gain stage on. He then dialed the volume back, and it cleaned up like no amp I've ever heard before. What was cool was that it still had some volume to it, but was crystal clear. He noodled on some classic Zepplin, and dude--it was right on. Crank the volume, and it went back to classic Marshall. Very, very cool. What was incredible was hearing Billy play. He knows the amp inside and out, of course, and he has HIS tone dialed in to the maxx. He played his home-made guitar, and and proceed to lay down the best Frampton cover I've ever heard. It sounded JUST like vintage Frampton...incredible. Next he shifted into EVH mode. Dude--I can't believe I was hearing classic Frampton one minute, then "The Brown Sound" the next...EVH was IN the room. Jeff, Brett, his friend, and I were just agape. Pete is going to have a field day with this amp, and I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves with it, dude. You're going to have to chain it down so it doesn't walk away, y'know? If you're looking for a Mesa Triple Rectifier, then this is NOT your amp. You want to play everything from EVH to Zepp to Aerosmith...this is the ticket. ...and we haven't even discussed the CLEAN channel yet, or the KILLER reverb...or the effects loop. ![]() BB

Re: Landry Amp...Pre-production Pics!!!
Here goes my half-assed review of the amp. First of all thanks to Billy Landry for just being a very cool laid back guy who invited us into his home and offered us food and beverage for the pleasure of demoing his labor of love. When I walked into the house BB was playing some tasty Stevie Ray licks with his strat and the tone was right on. Loud, fat, articulate and spanky. This was through the Landry 4x12 cab loaded with heritage 65's. There was also a vertical slant 2x12 Landry cab loaded with Emi Wizards which are their take on G12H30's. The 4x12 really brought out the low end in the amp which has a nice large sonic footprint. Big lows, articulate highs, and cutting mids. The clean tone was one of the best I've heard from a channel switcher and I've had a few. The reverb was very nice. Big and warm sounding. Gave some nice breath to the notes. The gain channel was just perfect for classic rock and with the extra gain stage kicked in, sweet singing sustain jumped off the fretboard. Even with the extra gain stage kicked in the amp cleaned up beautifully with the guitar volume. I got gorgeous clean tones out of the gain channel with the guitar volume down. Billy had said that he worked really hard to build an amp that was responsive to guitar volume and he nailed it. By the way, Billy is a rediculous guitar player. He hooked an old midiverb in the loop and launched into Frampton's do you feel and nailed it. Then straight into eruption and WOW! It helped that Billy really has the feel for it and the amp pretty much spit out big brown notes. This was through the 2x12 slant cab which sounded really nice. Big and articulate. Mind you these were all brand new speakers that had yet to break in though they are well on their way considering the volumes we were playing at. BB gave Billy his strat and he coaxed absolutely gorgeous tones from the clean channel. Billy played Lenny and then Little Wing and the tone was just inspiring. This is a fantastic classic rock amp. With the added gain stage you can venture into modern rock but classic rock is where this thing lives. Between the small group of us we heard zz top, areosmith, frampton, zeppelin, free, journey, etc. The amp excels at these tones. Another thing worth mentioning is that the amp is layed out simply and logically. Billy Landry did a great job of taking all the shortcomings of amps he's used in the past and building an amp that addressed and surpassed them. Another really cool feature was that the front grill is velcro'd so that the tubes are easily accessed for all the tweakers. In a nutshell the Landry amp is simple and musical. The head sounded great through both cabs and every guitar played through it sounded good as well. I was very impressed at how good both channels sounded. Another thing worth mentioning was that often two of us would be riffing together with both amps set up the same way and you could really hear the differences in guitars. The amp really was an extension of the tone of the guitar. Good stuff! Kudos to Billy Landry. It will be interesting to see what happens next. If my money tree was in full bloom I'd have to pick up a head and the 2x12 cab!

Re: Landry Amp...Pre-production Pics!!!
OK.....you guys have me droolin'!
This sounds like the best of my Marshall Vintage Modern....where the amp puts the controls back into the guitar......with footswitching capabilities.....EXACTLY what I have been looking for. How do I get in touch with Mr. Landry.....or you guys can give him my info....WILL or BB?

He probably won't sell until after the opening on the 29th...he only has 2-3 heads finished right now. Your analogy--putting controls on the guitar...is spot on. That's exactly what Billy was shooting for. Like the guitar heroes of old, who didn't have channel switching. ![]() BB

Re: Landry Amp...Pre-production Pics!!!
Those are much, much better reviews than my own haha.
The Landry amp is very, very impressive. Although it does classic rock better than anything else, I am willing to put money on it that it could do anything. Those things smoke!

Re: Landry Amp...Pre-production Pics!!!
![]() $2600 is the list. For a hand built, point to point wired amp, the list price is a steal compared to the bigger named production (non-hand wired) models out there. I am looking forward to my LS-100. It will be here by Monday. ![]() Here's LS-100 specs that Bill gave me. The LS100 is an all tube, 100w amp. Since it has two independent channels (clean and distortion), there is no sacrifice in tone as you change from one channel to the other; making this amp very versatile. Each channel has its own gain, treble, mid, bass, and volume controls and the distortion channel has an additional gain stage accessible by the footswitch. This added stage has its own gain control that works in combination with the distortion channel gain control. The LS100 also has reverb, master volume, presence and a series effects loop. The LS100 is built on a 16 gage steel powder coated chassis, mounted in a solid birch cabinet with finger joint construction. Point to point wiring, orange drop capacitors and carbon comp resistors combine to make an amplifier that responds to your touch, allowing you to play what you feel. The Clean Channel captures the highly sought after tone and sparkle of vintage amps. It’s very warm and punchy. The Distortion Channel is crunchy and thick without sounding fuzzy. Click in the high gain for another level of distortion and sustain without fuzz. Turn down your guitar volume and it cleans up nicely even on high gain. The Reverb is tube driven and very lush. Amplifier: 100 watts all tube amp Point to Point wiring Clean Channel: Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Volume Distortion Channel: Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Volume, High Gain Master Control: Reverb, Master Volume, Presence Back panel: 2 Speaker Outputs Impedance Selector Switch: 4, 8, & 16 ohm Effects loop: Send & Return Footswitch: XLR jack. Mains inlet with fuse holder Auxiliary AC Outlet Tubes: Preamp tubes: 4- 12AX7 Reverb Tube: 1-12AT7 Phase Splitter: 1-12AX7 Poweramp tubes: 4-EL34 operating in class AB push pull Weight: 47lbs Size: 25 ½ x 10 ¼ x 10 ¾ in.
