This also goes for running an amp OFF Standby, not going into a speaker load .

Re: Peavey Classic 30

I don't own one but I did find this used Classic 30 in the store a while back and tested it out.
Really liked it, had nice cleans and got some nice overdrive at the lower volumes.(wasn't able to turn it up in the store)
Seemed versatile and I think it's got a nice in between British and American sound. Plus the tweed is great.
I came back a couple weeks later and asked if they had any Classic 30's and they started commenting on how good they thought it was. I had no intention of buying and they were out of Classic 30's, so they probably weren't trying to make it sound good lol.
BTW someone on another forum mentioned that the Peavey Delta Blues is also pretty good. So that's something to look into if your interested in the Classic 30 I suppose.

Re: Peavey Classic 30

Well good news cause of GC's holiday sale I might be the future owner of a Peavey Classic 50.

If your still interested in those 30's i'd check it out now, cause GC has lowered the price on it ridiculously. Hopefully it won't be out but i'm gonna try to snag one for $400 new tomorrow.

Could anyone tell me how the Classic 50 compares to the Classic 30?

Same basic layout of controls, Try both the 2 12 and 4 10 Models, I had a 4 10 I had to sell to a great old friend who needed it badly to gig with .
Its almost a Fender 59 Bassman Re Issue , with extra drive and verb, I'd take one over a Fender Hot Rod series any time

Re: Peavey Classic 30

Alright, my options are very little the only amps they have left are a floor model Classic 30, floor model Classic 50 (2x12) and a new Classic 50 which I hope to get. Cause they're charging $400 for any of those, I guess the Classic 50 new would be the biggest bang for the buck.
If they have any 4x10's i'll definitely check it out though.

I'm most worried about the volume cause ATM I usually record in my room and do medium gigs on rare occasions..

I could still get good low volume drive with the pre amp shoved over pretty hard, I never turned mine up past six, the time I did, was a fourth of July and pissed off my neighbor two doors up while playin the Star Spangled Banner !

Sounds like a "blast" *see what I did there with bad joke?*

Well if it's usable and still sounds good at lower volumes then i'll probably check it out. So long as it's got a good basic clean tone...
I could wait to get a Ceriatone but I won't be able to get a price on an amp like this anytime soon.

50 watt Peavey All tube for 400 Bones is a deal in my book, one ya shouldnt let slide, hell you might make money if you want to move it for a Ceriatone later . I keep goin back to Nik's site and think man there is a few amps here I'd love to have !

Re: Peavey Classic 30

saw a used one for 399 this week at a local store. thinking of putting 3 benjamins down on the counter and see what they say, and walk if they say 'no'.

You know they only gave the seller a buck, maybe a buck fifty tops, for it.

of course, I should probably try it first, with one of my guitars.

Re: Peavey Classic 30

^Yeah they're pretty cool amps. If you like it then go for it, though if it's a used Classic 30 they should sell it for 300 instead of 400.

And I managed to get the last new Classic 50 for $400 at GC today. I
m still trying to test it out and see what the amp can do. I got 30 days to return it but it's looking alright ATM.

Is it normal for the amp to make a slight hum and be a little noisy as the volume goes up?

Evening, Yeah on the Humm , Check ground wires, florencent lighting can make it worse , especially in higher gain settings , Also Check and make sure all your tubes are seated in tight , Which Speaker config ,?

It's the 2x12, it's not all that noticeable but you can definitely hear it. I don't think there are any fluorescent light in the room and my Valvetronix never had any noise so...

Haha it's true, the playing dynamics the amp picks up is amazing. I might still get the ceriatone but this one is sounding great at the moment.
