Need help/info on Fender twin reverb 4 sale

I am up in Maryland doing some stuff for work and I found this add about a fender reverb and need the knowledgable guys to weigh in. I don't know much about them except the sound is classic. I haven't looked at it yet and before I do, is this a waste of my time? I just bought a epiphone blues custom which I love but I am not sure if I am passing up a deal. Hell, I have more than one guitar, why not more than one good amp? Sould I stay away from it.
Here is what the guys says about it:

"I have a fender twin reverb for sale. All tube with amazing reverb and clean tones. There are two issues with the amp. The tremolo circuit does not work which should be an easy fix. Secondly, the 2 celestion G-12-65's which are in the amp need to be reconed. They sound good at low volumes but only at extremely high volumes can you hear the reconing issue. $300 cash local pickup. An extremely reasonable price for a 70s twin with celestions. Prefer to sell this today. "

Should I stay away. Thanks fellas. Take care.

Mark

OH yeah, he wants $300 for it.

Re: Need help/info on Fender twin reverb 4 sale

I dont think its that reasonable. a 70's twin is plentyful to find. with any used tube amp you can also expect to buy a new full retube and bias which will run another $150-200 dep on how many tubes are in there

the tremolo is prob a tube but it can be worse. the speakers are going to run another $100-150 a peice for something decent. if youre playing lower you can prob live with iit

but it makes me wonderr how hard the amp was gigged if the owner knows it only shows up wide open. thats not a good thing for the electronics either as over heating can be
an exp fix too.

if it were me and you really really want that amp have it benched checked b4 you buy it
theres usually no charge for that. so the seller feels safe you can bring it in together and put the papers under his name.

another thing is that he wants to unload it today quickly. thats bothers me also.

if it were me id walk. you can picka great one up for about $800 at any used or online store

They are tanks---if it needs a roach for the trem or some tubes, no big deal. You can pick up a reasonable set of speakers for 100-150$ and you're in business...the only question is MV vs. NMV, screwed or glued baffle, and possibly UL model...those are post '72. Get it working and you can leave it to your grandkids...

I think if I found a working Twin for $300 the only question would be where to hide it from my wife.

Re: Need help/info on Fender twin reverb 4 sale

Thanks for the info and stuff to think about. Another thing is that this amp is just like a twin reverb that I was looking at when I was a kid. The guy at this little store offered me a really good price. I could quite afford it, so I opted for this crate twin with chorus ( I kick myself everytime I think about it). So instead of waiting another month and getting this cool ass amp I got this POS. By the way I still have that crate and I can hear it chuckle at me everything I pass by it walking through my garage.

I talked to my wife and I put in an offer to the guy for a bit cheaper to pick it up today. So we will see. Thanks for the input fellas.

That is just too funny, but my wife is much smarter than me and would find out and kick my ass. So I checked with her and she said if he goes down in price it would be cool. That whole "it is better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission" works much better at work than home. And I wouldn't want her to make a purchase without me knowing either. Still funny, none the less!!

Get the Twin. Its my favorite amp. Everyone knows what its capable of doing. $300 is a steal. Drop it off at a good amp tech and you'll be golden. It'll probably be around 3-400 bux to get that thing on the road again. check out my avatar. Im bias

Re: Need help/info on Fender twin reverb 4 sale

Hmmm. not to start anything but I dont think its worth it imo

Amp $300
Tubes and rebiasing $200
Pair of Celestians $300

your at $800 and you dont know if anything else is wrong.
ex scratchy pots, bad caps, over heated components and what not

For around $700-800 you can get one that you know is working 100%

Re: Need help/info on Fender twin reverb 4 sale

It looks like the amp is gone. I never did get an email back and it has disappeared off craigslist. No biggie. I am not really in the market for another amp, just thought it could have been a good deal. Thanks for all the input. This site does kick ass.
