Possible Problem with Roland Cube 30X

Good day. My amp has developed a hum when a guitar cord is attached. It disappears when I touch the metal part of the cord. Its also there when there is a guitar attached and disappears when I touch any metal part of the guitar. I have replaced the cord and the hum is still there. I tried my guitar with my friend's amps and no hum, so it's not the guitar and not the cord. Maybe it's operator error? What's the ideal volume, gain, etc., setting for practicing at home. Thank you so much.

hmm.. good question newtoy

sorry i don't know the answer though.. .. happened to me with my amp back in the Philippines.. it's broken now.. .. i was just careless.. knew nothing about amp settings, etc.. basically, when i wanted it loud then i'd just turn up without restraint.. not a bright idea

sounds like a possible ground problem somewhere in your amplifier, does it have a working three prong plug? increase in gain settings may make it even louder yet

You're probably right. It came with a two-prong plug and the hum increases as you turn the volume up.

Possible also in handling or moving an internal ground wire has come loose or broke
another thing that can give you alot of hum in high gain amps is if you are playing under flourescent lighting

Re: Possible Problem with Roland Cube 30X

Have you ever bent or moved the cord violently while it was plugged into the amp? An input jack is made out of cheap, cheap metal and if its not getting a solid connection, could cause a buzz or hum.

Most often the source of hum in an amp is electronics around or on the same circuit as the amp, lighting, or the guitar itself. But input jacks are CHEAP if thats all it is, and can be replaced in about 5 minutes with a soldering iron and a screwdriver and a pair of pliers.
