amp help
Aloha
I am looking for a nice bluesy amp for screwing around in the man room and looking for suggestions. I currently have a Vox VT30 and it's ok but with alot of room for improvement as I am having a tough time getting any real blues sound out of it. I like the old vintage sound my friend gets out of his Fender Black Face twin reverb (original) and was leaning for a twin reverb reissue or a fender blues Jr something along those lines. Anyone got any suggestions beyond a Fender - something off the wall or a better Idea? My budget is about $1k +/- a little. Thanks in advance

Re: amp help
Shameless plug for Randelli's HELLFIRE, He will even build one for you, if you are not a do-it-yourself type.
Check the clip here - does very clean to crunchy, with lots of variations possible ! Much Less than a K-buck, too. |

Re: amp help
The HELLFIRE has a matchless Spitfire preamp with an AB 6V6 output section. It is a direct retrofit into an EVJ head, or you can have a cabinet made by aneous fool. Guitar Center is selling the EVJ head for about $95.

Re: amp help
Cornell 18/20.
If you are patient, on ebay or gbase.com you can find a used one for around 1400-1800. Also Marshall Vintage Modern, around 800 used. Some demos on youtube. 100 watts but it has a master volume. Also 100 watt amps w/out master volumes should not be overlooked. A volume controlling gadget can be installed, be it an attenuator, Master Volume, or variac. My favorite would be the London Power Scale. The kit+ installation cost me around $200. I bought a Marshall 1959SLP and used this mod and can make it roar over an army of drummers or practice in my bedroom at 1 in the morning without tone loss. It also lengthens tube life. |
