JJ Gold Pin 12 ax7
got one on loan, threw it in my 64' vibro champ.... meh. Whats the hype with these? Nothing special at all to me, I was much happier with the tone when i had the pair of PM tubes Rockinhorse sent me in there.

Re: JJ Gold Pin 12 ax7
Gold pins do nothing but prevent corrosion. Don't waste your money. Nothing to do with tone. If your tube sockets aren't gold plated, it's even more worthless.

Re: JJ Gold Pin 12 ax7
As RH1 said gold is used to prevent corrosion....it is used on Hi FI cables on signal paths for better connection because of the very small signals being transmitted ...in areas where high voltage is it is not necessary

Re: JJ Gold Pin 12 ax7
I'm still digging my PM's as well.
Not seen anything special...from those in the know, regarding gold pin JJ's.

Re: JJ Gold Pin 12 ax7
There are two different 12Ax7's JJ offers. One is the ECC803s and the other is the ECC83s. They have gold pin versions of both.
The ECC803s has the longest plate ever made in a tube, and is supposed to be more noise resistant, but they are consistantly microphonic. Tung Sol also makes a version of the ECC803s The ECC803s was a Telefunken tube. Never heard one, but I think if you were to find a new one they get about $700 for one on Ebay. There is mixed feelings about both JJ 12AX7's if you Google it. Most say the Tung Sol is better.
