Weak classic 50 reverb

Any way besides a pedal to increase the reverb on a peavey classic 50 reverb? I have checked the tank and every thing looks ok. I have to turn the reverb knob up to 10 before i can start to hear it. Would a bigger tank help any?

Re: Weak classic 50 reverb

No, something is wrong with either your wiring, your tank, or your reverb driver, which I think is SS in this amp.

Clean the RCA jacks leading to and from the tank for good contacts at both ends.

If you have another reverb tank around, substitute it in the circuit to eliminate the tank as the source of the problem.

One of the amp gurus can tell you what to do with a crummy driver. I stay away from the circuits in my amps, and everybody's happy.

Re: Weak classic 50 reverb

Already cleaned and checked everything and i have seen other posts about the older ones being weak. This is a mid 90's model. The reverb didn't work at all when i got it, the op-amp IC chip was bad. After replacing it works but is weak sounding. I checked the ohms on the tank and RC jacks, all seem fine.

Re: Weak classic 50 reverb

I've just serviced a mid 90s Classic 50, and the reverb is massive. I would have said too much, but maybe not as much as a DR... I think you might need to check why the op amp IC went bad, as it might be the same reason the reverb is sounding weak.

Re: Weak classic 50 reverb

I'm not tech savey enough to go past the IC chip and not willing to pay a tech. So i'll use a pedal.
