help me understand
hey all. first post here. nice place!
ok, this is a noob question. i'm leaning toward a marshall haze 15, and i'm not sure if i should get the full stack or half stack. i am trying to understand the difference. if a half stack, 15 watts would go to one speaker, right? so, if i got the full stack, are 15 watts going to each of two speakers, making it twice as loud? or is it dividing it between the two, so each get 7.5 watts, but somehow sounds better because it's coming out of two speakers? if the full stack sounds better, then i would get it. this is just for home use, but i'd really like to understand the difference between the half and full stack arrangement. thanks, pat. |

Re: help me understand
The second of your suggestions - the 15 watts is shared. You will get a slightly fuller sound running two cabs but at low volumes it could still sound better out of one since there is a minimum power you want to put through a speaker. Full up two cabs will be very slightly louder and fill more space.

Re: help me understand
If you are going to buy a cheap head like the Haze then spend a bit more and get a good cab.
Two junk cabs are no better than a single combo. Then you can upgrade the head and speakers as money allows. I'd take a V30 Birch Ply 2x12 over any MDF 4x12. Check Sourmash for a cab. Or keep an eye out on CL for used 1960A's or older Peavey cabs. |

Re: help me understand
My question, sorry for the hijack: 2 speakers = twice as loud as one? 4 speakers = twice as loud as two, four times as loud as one?

The amp still pushes the same wattage no matter what. Speaker efficiency has a much more pronounced effect than anything else. Another factor to consider is closed back vs. open back enclosures. |

Re: help me understand
The watts will not be divided, extra speakers push more air and thus increase perceived volume. You will still have 15watts just pushing more air
