Does my $450 Bugera sound as good as a $2000 Splawn?

Nope. But not far off. What would you do with the other $1500? Or would you spend it on the Splawn?

Not even close. There is a $1,550 difference in the sound.

Really its comes down to a personal opinion for the happy bugera owners. And road worthy reliability is not often a concern because many aren't in bands and spend most of the day playing with themselves.

But in all seriousness, I love my Bugera and to MY ears it sounds as good as I need it. I dont need to shell out thousands of dollars to get the tone I want. Guess thats a plus for me

The bugera went in for repair. That's the only reason both amps ended up in the same room. The guy that owns the shop (Splawn dealer) was the one who suggested that the $2000 Splawn in his showroom did not sound $1500 better than the Booger. Of course, then he told me he hadn't figured out what was wrong with my amp yet....

I think they break without even leaving the house. Just add electricity...Poof!

I've heard nothing but bad about Quality Control on Bugera, but the sound is pretty good for my 10 minutes I got to play on it.

Remind me to make it my New Years resolution not to ever post in Bugera threads.

I like to remain a nice person.

True opinion...if it works for you, fine.
Just don't try to tell us it can hold up against a much better built amp.
Yes...they do sound good.
But keep a fire extinguisher and a spare amp handy at all times.

No, nor will it last as long.
Only thing that sounds like a Splawn is a Splawn.

It's funny cause it's true. I'm on both sides of the "Bugera Wars". Love how it sounds, but it's doing me no good sitting on the repair bench. This was supposed to be my backup. But WTF good is the backup that craps out when you need it?

Funny, mate of mine has had a Bugera valve amp for the last couple of years.

Never had a problem with it and it does sound great.

A Splawn and Marshall will sound like heaven once you crank them.
A Bugera will literally melt the circuit board when they're cranked, poor quality...Then again, I don't expect anything special from Behringer...

Re: Does my $450 Bugera sound as good as a $2000 Splawn?

I always figured if I want a Marshall, I should buy a Marshall. If I want a Splawn (Soldano/Mesa/Orange/etc.) I should buy a Splawn (Soldano/Mesa/Orange/etc.)

However, if I can't afford one of the other amps, there are options. I just can't expect it to be something it is not. Especially around here.

Re: Does my $450 Bugera sound as good as a $2000 Splawn?

Mines lasted since this past Christmas. The first one did die within a few days, but this ones holding up great. I just need some new tubes. And they dont go up in flames when you crank them. They react like any other tube amp that I have cranked.

Maybe it's just mine. Who knows?

Re: Does my $450 Bugera sound as good as a $2000 Splawn?

For the record, there are other breeds of horse in the stable. Tripple Rec, XXX, DSL, blah blah..... I know nothing of "boutique" heads, but there's nothing wrong with my ears. If these Bugeras didn't break down.... Yes... You would buy one. Not to replace your 18 watt hand wired work of art. But to make sure you could still play the show that your amp puked at. Honestly, how many of us playing for minimal $, can afford more than one $1000+ heads? If you have ONE, how long did you dream of owning such an amp before you had the means to aquire it?

Ok. Let's revisit that question. How many of you, who CAN afford 2 badass amps is married with children? If you are one such, and you'd like to contribute something worthwhile to this thread, tell the rest of us how to do it. Because at my house, one more "band" purchace may be grounds for divorce. Dig?

My Epiphone doesn't sound as good as my Tokai...not even after I transplanted the Tokai's stock guts into it.

You are absolutely correct in that you have to live within your means. I love my gear, its really my only vice and hobby and I don't drink, smoke or take any drugs so its where I dump my spare pennies. I take allot of pleasure in the time I spend with it and it helps me get thru my work day knowing I'll be jamming soon. But I've been building the gear up for a while. And I have owned my Jube for 23 years. That being said, I've been married to an incredible woman for 22 years, have three kids one of whom is in college ($$$ ). I agree it does not make sense to have gear you cannot afford. You won't be happy.

Maybe they have a quota to take their time assembling and use better parts in a few of their amps on the production line so people like you can say what you said.Kind of like when a company sends one of their amps to a major magazine for a "review" and they doctored up the amp to make it sound way better than the rest of the same line.
