Super Reverb RI ......HELP!

So, I just picked up this Super Reverb RI the other day. After having it home and playing it for a while I started noticing a few weird sounds.I'm getting a little bit of a rattling sound. It's really low and doesn't get any lounder if I turn the volume up.I'm thinking a couple of the GT 12AX7'S may be microphonic?
The second sound and the one that concerns me the most is,I getting a high pich ,feedback like sqeel that seems to be coming from the reverb. It goes away when the reverb is off. What do you guys think? Does anybody else play through one of these? Which 12AX7 controls the reverb? I really love the sound and I 'd love to keep it, if it's just a tube issue.Otherwise it's going back Tuesday.

Thanks

Thats what I would say..and the high pitched squeal could be beginning of the end for the power tubes.. I would re tube it.

I'm looking to get a super reverb..they are great amps!

That's what I would say too. The rattling you mention could be anything though from a loose screw to a rectifier tube--probably the latter.

Re: Super Reverb RI ......HELP!

Alot of combos have rattling sound, because
the speakers are so close to the exposed tubes

Re: Super Reverb RI ......HELP!

Some companies are starting to smarten up
and bulding a protective box around the amp
on thier combos, but not many.

The Suhr Badger 18 has a seperate area for the amp and
the speaker is even enclosed

Re: Super Reverb RI ......HELP!

Hey ,thanks for the help. I think I've got it figured out now.It appears that the store or previeous owner had swapped around a couple of the 12ax's & 12at's. You wouldn't think it would make all that noise, but once I switched them all back it cleaned right up.I also notice the power tubes aren't matched. The store I got it at is a great place and this is really my only problem with them ever ,so no biggie.

Thanks for the help!

Oh yeah.Any suggestions about what power tubes would be good in a Super?

Seriously check out Eurotube and look into a set of JJ 6L6s. You may have to look into rebiasing, but they would be able to tell you. The guys there are amazingly helpful and really actually do answer phone calls and e-mails with lots of information. Good customer service and good products. My sense is that the re-issue might be a big more forgiving then an original--but then I don't know for sure. I used to own vintage Fender gear, but traded or sold it all (except for one silverface Vibrolux). I have never really spent a ton of time with the new re-issue stuff. Let us know how you like it and post some clips. The super reverb is an awesome amp. With the old ones you needed to get the right ones though. They were a bit inconsistent from amp to amp. One would think that has changed.

Re: Super Reverb RI ......HELP!

yeah the first thing to do when you buy a used tube amp that you dont know the history of is to have it checked b4 you play it to much. most times a retube and adj is all they need but now it just cost you $150-200 more for the amp

thats the price to pay to have tuber
