Re: Phaez Amps [merged]
The Phaez JTM based circuits have that Marshall vowel like grunt in spades, and that's a good thing in my book. I agree with onioner, a Corona (Fender Blackface based circuit) would accompany your Jericho very well. That is the next amp I plan to get if I can ever pull myself away from my JTM 18. I already have two other amps collecting dust right now.

That's the only way I can describe it. I'm not really referring to midrange frequencies. I can scoop the mids and its still there. British style speakers augment it a bit. So the corona.... Any other suggestiins? Any decent corona demos out there? |

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]
Great tones & playing there!
I can hear that JTM18 sound in that Daisycutter for sure. Now on the blackface circuit... Many BF amps have a fizzy gain structure. I'm not wanting that, but a sound like the Marshall JTM1 which is somewhat mid-scooped yet doesn't have that Marshall vowell like sound that the Jericho has. I would need to hear it on a good clip. Now surely one of you Corona owners could help a guy out

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]
Got my EL84 SIBLY last Monday. Wife was on vacation last week and needless to say, I didn't get much play time with it. But I'm really happy with what I've heard from it so far, the EL84s give it a nice snarly growl. The lead tones are the best I've ever heard coming through my feeble fingertips. It came with JJ preamp and Sovtek power tubes and I can't see any reason to change them. The Jericho needed some tube tweaking from the start, but it's a different animal, more in your face. Both amps compliment each other very well and as much as I hate pedals, I think I'm going to need a switch pedal so I can alternate between the two. Hoping to get it installed in it's head shell tomorrow. The speaker cab still needs the baffle attached and a back cover made so, hopefully I can have that done soon as well.

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]
I just put some old glass in my Jericho. I put a no name 12at7 in the PI and a pair of GE 12ax7a in the preamp. Sound fantastic. The jj's that it came with still sounded great but I wanted to experiment. At some point I'll switch the power tubes

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]
I don't do much recording and all I have for recording software is an old version of cool edit, but I'll try to make something when I get everything set up. It's difficult for me to describe tone, but to me the Jericho does rhythm best, even though it does solo stuff very well. I find the SIBLY to be somewhat the opposite. It'll put out some of the best rhythm I've heard, but the lead tone is to die for. Mean and creamy is what comes to mind. Sustain is outstanding with the Jericho, but with the SIBLY, it just goes on and on. I'm using a faded SG with 57 and 57+ pickups and The SIBLY is getting the tone of a lot more Zeppelin songs than just it's namesake. I can't say that either of the two amps is better, love'em both. Somebody mentioned Malcolm's tone the other day. To me, the Jericho is Malcolm and the SIBLY is Angus. One of the reasons I need a switch pedal.

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]
I've been struggling to find any time at all lately to get in any playing, I hate when life gets in the way.
I need my Phaez fix. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
